I regret buying it in advance. I should have waited for a month or six after it got discounted and patched into a playable state. Instead, I ended up paying a premium for all the bugs.
I bought it and asked for a refund after an hour of playing. Not worth the money and the improvement over 2K21 is negligible in my opinion, they have recycled so much stuff and also removed many things. I refunded and will only buy again if under $30
It’s the laziest 2 year project I’ve seen in gaming in a long time. It’s not even close to next gen graphics. Disregarding graphics which don’t really matter imo, there’s nothing to play for. No ranked means I’m already done. +11 handicap and beat the tour events, societies are dead. I dunno. It’s lazy AF. It’s the same bland game it was in 21 and golf club before it.
slapping a new coat of paint on it, introducing about a dozen major bugs and calling it a day....
At least add some competitive game modes for longevities sake. All they did was add a way to upgrade clubs…. For money lol
Its the most bugged $60 game I’ve ever played at release. I think it will be a big upgrade from 2k21 once they fix everything but until they make updates I’m just gonna use my time playing something else.

Granted 2K23 was not a huge update over 2K21, but there are some significant changes though subtle. The major one that comes to mind is how much more the ball rolls out on the greens for both longer irons and putting.
But if you want to make this argument the mechanics of this game is not much different than the previous Tiger Woods game. To me it just feels like an updated TW2014, with some things added and others removed.
I would consider myself a competent but not elite player, and this game is easy. Sonce day one I set the difficulty to the highest level, but with the green grids enabled. I have commented several.times I don't feel you can display a 3D environment on a 2D screen.
I do not remember shooting over par with this game yet. I have played without the grid 3 times and shot 5 under each time but didn't enjoy the experience.
The game is easy... the difficulty is mainly in the randomness of the RNG. I get punished with good swings and rewarded for bad ones.
There is little for me in this game now. I hit the ball in a general direction, let the RNG determine where the ball lands and hit my next shot rinse and repeat.
If I land on the green I will either make the putt or 2 putt and go to the next hole. Because of the putting mechanics you can always pretty much hit the distance you want. And once you understand how slope and direction works in the game you can always lag to within about 3 feet of the pin.
If you don't land on the green, it is a simple flop or pick shot, short putt and off to the next tee box.
Unless I am just off the green with a relatively flat lie the flag. In that case I may try to chip the ball in the hole.
Note if I am flopping or hitting a pick shot I won't try to sink the shot as hitting the flagstick is normally very penal.
So in short I agree with the OP that the game is quite arcadey, long shots into a green roll out too far, and wedges spin often way too much even when delofting the club.
And that RNG seems to take precedence over user input.
I can play through a round in EA's game quickly because there is very little thinking. I hit the ball, once near the green I will switch to a flop shot from the rough or pick from the bunker, sink the putt and move on.
At least on 2K I need to be aware that I cannot be above the hole if the green is sloping away from me.
EA looks good, and the career mode is pretty well executed if you turn off the commentary. But because of the difficulty and playing mechanics the experience is lacking.
The game has potential but it just is not their yet for the sim player. This is an arcade game dressed up as something more.

I can categorically tell you any game that has RANDOM landing will never be arcadey
I hole out for more on amateur on 2k23 than I do on this game
You guys have no clue what you’re talking aboutTo add there are 3 main reasons why 2k23 is more arcadey than EA PGA Tour on the easiest difficulty
- Random landing
On 2k23 I point and it goes where i aim it, if the wind is 1mph and it goes 1 box. It goes 1 box.
On EA PGA Tour I could hit the same shot 10 times in a row and it will go 10 different places as the power I hit will be different and the random landing will make it go in different directionsPutt previews
The way the putting works in 2k23 is completely different. You get to see where your putt is going to go AFTER you line it up based off the power you’re aiming at. You hit your power and hit your pace? It goes in the hole every time.
In this game it shows you the putt line but it is based off the perfect speed and perfect pace and can be sometimes way off

I can even make a 4i with Full loft roll out 2 yards lol it is ridiculous. This is on every single course
On EA every course and every rollout is different on every course and takes ages to master
So please don’t tell me this game is arcadey even if the rough gives you a 100% lie
This game is WAY more closer to real golf than anything I’ve ever played and it’s why I love it
- @agentputt I don't know why you pick and choose your arguments. But how can you say EA is less arcadey because of the random shot dispersion.
As far as putting goes, I turn off everything in 2K. I don't have the same option in EA. But at least with 2K it takes into user input... meaning I can easily pound a putt 20 feet past the hole if I am not careful. In EA I just move the reticule to the calculated distance I think I need the ball to travel. 3 putts are rare in EA PGA Golf, actually even bogies are rather rare in this game.
I just saw on an EA Facebook forum that they just shot a 48, and implied they should have been one shot better.
If you ever played the Links games from late 1990's and early 2000's you might have a different opinion. While they were not perfect I would consider them more advanced considering this game has the benefit of 25 years of technical advancements.
I know in real life when I hit a good shot, just like in 2K. 99% of the time in 2K I know I have hit a bad shot before the ball has left the club. In EA I have literally no idea why a ball ends up where it does about 60% of the time.
I can have a perfect timed swing with a dead straight swing path and it can pull left or block the ball out to the right.
I have had a downhill lie with the wind blowing left to right... push my swing to the right and have the ball go left. That totally defies logic...
- @agentputt Well I have bern playing golf games since they made them, but I don't see how that would be a qualifier for anything.
I have stated that 2K does allow for a ridiculous amount of accuracy in shot making, it is not a fault of the software but the hardware. There is not enough granularity in the input to allow for variance in the shot making. I am all for using the 2K swing model with some dispersion added in. I am on record for saying this to me would be the best swing model.
Using RNG automatically means you require an element of luck to execute a perfect shot. In EA this zone is much too large, if this was implemented in the 2K swing... the ball would be at least be ensured to be in the window with a reasonable chance of success. With EA it comes down more to luck than skill.
But I do respect your opinion on the matter even though I don't agree with it.
