New swing mechanic

I was responding on another thread... and we were discussing the swing mechanic in this game.

Here is my thoughts for the swing meter/timing.

The swing would accelerate slowly at start of the swing and move exponentially quicker as you get to the top of the swing (where the max power would represent 100% ie. overswing).

I always hated seeing swing meters showing higher than 100%, how can you hit something harder than you are capable?

A perfect shot yardage would equate to an 85% swing... anything above, that doesn't have a perfect swing path would go exponentially further off line. Once you get past 100% swing the meter will continue for another 10% but the percentages would count down back to 90%... if your swing doesn't transition to a down swing after this point nothing would happen. This way you can't hold the club at the top of the swing to get max power.

I think this accelerated swing would work well as you can better control partial swings, and distance control on longer shots would be more difficult. Kind of like in real life.

This could also be used for putting making things much more realistic. Especially if we can get EA to let us hide the reticule.

That actually sounds really good. If they also did their usual thing of having the 3 difficulty levels of it (E/N/H) then it could be great for players of all skill levels out of the box.

5 levels or more would even be better so that everyone can find their sweet spot. The current game in my opinion needs at least 2 higher levels of difficulty.

I wouldn't disagree with that in the slightest. If anything it makes learning and adjusting to the higher levels of play even more accessible. 🙂

@Noya_Wesa I would hope no matter how good you got at the game there would aways be a higher level to go too.

That would be the ideal, yes. There will always be those players who want to strive that little more, to be that one step closer to perfection as they can get, and I fully support their ambition to do such.

I would probably cap out at the medium difficulty point, but that doesn't mean that's all that the game needs. )

@Noya_Wesa Personally I always configure my settings so I shoot par on any round. This means some days I will shoot several shots over... other days I may shoot several under. But most days I would be 1 or 2 strokes either side of par.

In 2K it has been known for me to shoot double digits over par doing it this way. But that would be a rare occurrence.

In this game we can't set the difficulty high enough to achieve this which is unfortunate.

@ELF014  My settings vary day to day, due to variable physical impairment, so I tend to cap out around the midway point. I do understand the desire to go for as hard as possible though.

There are days when I set the input to hard, disable as many of the assists as I can and try to get by with just grids and beads, and maybe the assist for distance and aim depending on the day. On those kind of days, anything below a 6 over is a good day as far as I'm concerned. 🙂

I suspect with the input style you propose, that would maybe be the medium difficulty. For some players though, I am aware that will still be easy mode, so they need to have more difficulty available.

I rather see swing speed and tempo configurable than making a single swing that goes slow at the start and then speeds up.

Real golfers don’t have just this type of swing.  Some snatch it back quickly  and keep increasing the whole way.  Others (myself included), keep a medium tempo swing that is consistent from take away all the way to the top.  There are many possible combinations here.

I’ve never had a problem with the concept of a swing meter exceeding 100%.  I’ve always viewed 100% as the equivalent to 90 degree shoulder turn and 45 degree hip turn.  Past that point additional turn may generate more power, but at the cost of direction.   Even this could be configurable tho.  I limit my turn to around 75-80 degrees.  That’s my 100% in real life.  If I turn past that my directions suffers mightily.

@7AnimalMother I agree that we have all have different swing speeds in real life as well as different swing tempos for different shots. For instance my chipping or partial/pitch shots are not the same as my full swing.

Having a swing that starts slower would incorporate chipping pitching and full shots all into one swing tempo.

It's ths one thing I really dislike about 2K, trying to chip with that fast swing doesn't feel right. Even the full swing has felt too fast since 2K2019.
