I don't think there is a lack of interest in golf games. I think there is a lack of interest in poorly designed and supported golf games.
I'm guessing EA PGA Tour made a pretty big splash on release, but the ripples have settled after people got a chance to get intimate with the product.
It is sort of like dating... you get blinded by the pretty face and promises. But after 7 months things haven't changed and you are feeling unfulfilled.
2K doesn't check all the boxes either... but the alternative is not to play any video golf.
I've been hoping for months that EA would realize they didn't cater to a large enough group of players. And that they would start correcting a multitude of poor decisions they made when designing the game.
I have no idea how many copies EA sold, but it was less than 1M copies for EA Rory, they cut their losses and quit making golf game. So if they sold less than 1M copies of this one, it will probably be the same. It would explain why there's no improvement on game play and top devs have moved to the 2K golf game.

This one confuses me... if these two where top developers that had significant impact of the final product we call EA PGA Tour, WHY would you hire them?
The game is an obvious disaster in so many ways... from gameplay, to menu design, multiplayer, physics... etc. The list goes on and on...
And if their former employer thought highly of them would EA not have done something to retain the architects of this franchise?
EA has invested a lot of resources on this game, and I think they are aware that there is a viable market here. They just have the wrong vision of what needed to be developed for the community.
If they leave the genre I personally will be disappointed.. while I felt HB Studio's had a personal stake in improving the game, 2K I feel has a different agenda.
Without someone to push 2K to improve the game... advancements will be trivial.
Case in point... the updates prior to EA' release... and what has been updated since.

As in "we can do this, this and this, it'll take X amount of programmer hours and testing" Management then says sorry not in the budget, don't have the programmer manpower or just not interested.
It really looks like EA made the game for casual/arcade golfers. One look at 2K's societies and TGCTours 2K23 site should have told EA there IS a large demand for a realistic golf game, with multiplayer capabilities AND there needs to be a way for all these players to meet up to do it. Heck HB/2K worked with TGCTours to create an API for them.
We shall see just how committed EA is to this game over the next 6 months.- 3 years ago@SamA329 Yeah, I agree. Being able to bomb drives 400+ yards into knee high rough then spin a lob wedge back 18 feet is just too arcade. If EA really wants to keep this live service game going they need to continue improving the online competition modes. Career mode was fun. But beating up a coded program eventually becomes boring. Testing your abilities against other players is what provides long term replay value.
