Thank you @Beerrun4u for bringing the update to my attention.
There is a little to go through here to fully understand what they are doing.
I agree the swing arc is a nothing burger... in fact for Sim mode jn my opinion NO meters should exist in any respect. Nor should there even be an aiming reticule.
As for what they are doing with the putting grid I like it. Even though it is something I don't use. This does seem like a good solution for rewarding skills points without affecting shot execution. Meaning you should not be punished with RNG, for hitting a good shot just because you didn't have enough skill points.
For me it does not seem they understand the problem they have with how they manage RNG or dispersion. IF you hit a perfectly timed shot with a straight swing plane the shot should be executed perfectly. If NOT, then based on how much you are outside these parameters the greater the RNG. Adding skill points should only minimize the effect...
RNG/dispersion should not be some random action effecting your shots.
It appers EA is going to make some adjustments to make the game more playable/EASY... but it doesn't address the core problem.
I also hate how skill points can be readjusted... if you have enough VC, you can just more points around until you find what you want.
I personally would rather you be able to remove skill points, but then have to re-earn them. At least this way there is some accountability for bad choices... If I want to learn a new skill IRL I need to spend time building them. But I can see how I would be alone on this line of thinking in this world of instant gratification.
I always thought there was something glitchy about the putting animation, I hope they have done something to smooth it out. And that the ball roll out looks more realistic.
But I am looking forward to Tuesday to see what the state of the game becomes.
I play exclusively Private matches these days but am unable to lock down the settings to where we want them.

Personally I like the swing ARC changes. I don’t play sim due to the putting, so when I play online Tour mode, this will bring more challenge to the competition.. Like the new putting changes as well.
As far as the RNG goes, I think you have agreed with me that there is really no RNG on fully specced ,and leveled golfer with skill points applied. Therefore, I think your argument really isn’t about RNG but how progression occurs in the game.
To me they keep missing the biggest needed change for gameplay, and that’s significant reduction of distance/accuracy/spin from rough and sand and -dranatic- reduction from heavy rough.

@7AnimalMother What do you consider full specced? Does the little box to the lower right on the skill page determine that? If so, no one will ever get "specced up" until they increase skill points of have equipment with full specs, so RNG will always affect everyone for the foreseeable future.

Fully specced to me just means you have a legendary specc applied in each equipment slot.

I do agree that RNG doesn't come into play with a fully spec'd player. But that isn't my point... my problem is that RNG shouldn't be in play if a shot is perfectly executed. This way RNG can still come into play for a poorly executed shot. Once fully spec'd it becomes a lot more difficult to hit a bad shot, taking away a lot of the skill required to play the game.
For me they got this concept backasswards.
As for the second statement I fully agree.
I also think a SIM MODE preset should be just that, a preset that shouldn't have any aids enabled. Currently it includes the swing meter, and green grids which I could do without. I would love to be able to disable the aiming reticule as well.
It seems EA doesn't think golfers are very skilled and require ever possible aid to play.
You don't even need to be elite to score well on this arcade game. It truly is childs play... built by the mindset of children.

The good
- You now have to work out the wind direction yourself no more of the arc doing for you
The bad
- Finesse dispersion has been overtuned. Nobody in their right mind asked for MORE dispersion
- Putting stat changes have been overtuned. There is no one in their right mind would sacrifice all their other attributes to get 10 in putting to make it the way it was pre-update- 2 years ago

There is no one in their right mind would sacrifice all their other attributes to get 10 in putting to make it the way it was pre-updateThe good - that was kind of the default H2H mode in Rory - the amateur mode (most popular) was amateur with no blue line. Every calculation was up to you - and there were no zero wind games so there was always something you had to account for.
The bad - can't argue with that but I was expecting the max putt level to be actual small squares to expose any hidden zig-zags. I will add that random holes for Online was a bad decision.

They were probably trying to please the Simmers always complaining the game was too arcade and easy. By doing so, they made the game even more difficult for arcade players to hole out. Déjà vu all over again dating back to TW10 which gave us TW11.

My biggest pet peave with EA games is their complete willingness to please Simmers who are incapable of being satisfied. EA FC is the only EA game that does not do what Simmers want. For UFC and NHL, arcade players can still push back and revert to original settings. For PGA Tour, all simmer requested changes are irreversible. I get annoyed at games getting broken and more difficult because of a Simmer’s whim. That was what happened in Update 3.0. I just like all 2K games because Simmers don’t get the platform and bully pulpit.
