(the picture is from a low attribute player, but a full 60 lvl doesn't fill any of the bars)
What you are saying is true, but RNG starts to become almost negligible as you start building up your character.
But you shouldn't have to build up your character to hit reliable shots.

So now when you're against the face of a bunker you get an indicator if you're not going to clear the lip ON SIM MODE. That wasn't there before, right? Why make SIM even easier? Who's asking for that? I want the swing meter, putt meter and green grids turned off. Greater lie penalties. Bigger dispersion zones. Less skill points. Not more aids. Isn't that what Arcade, Pro and Tour are for?!

They’ve completely overtuned putting
I never expected to have put in 8 in putting just for it to remotely resemble last update
Im not fussed that my stats are now similar to what they were pre-patch 7.0 but it makes you question
Why on earth increase the level cap to 60 when our golfers are WORSE off than what they were before

@agentputt wrote:They’ve completely overtuned putting

I've gone up to level 8 putting after the update and I think the green grid is still larger than the 2' grid from before the update (based on quick estimate from the 10' putting challenges). Feels a little excessive to basically put the old grid at the top of the skill tree.
- 2 years ago@lolwhat1234 Agreed...I have 7 points in putting, and played a few holes just now. The grid looks exactly the same to me as it always has.

So, it seems that it still costs more coins to retrain some skills, even though the patch notes said it would be reduced to 50 "[d]ue to the volume of gameplay changes that have been made this season".
Driving skills still cost me 100 coins to retrain, and power takes 400 for me to retrain.

You pay per skill point, not level. It cost you 400 to remove 8 power skill points and 100 to remove 2 accuracy skill points.
@lolwhat1234That doesn't seem right.
When I select Power, and I select just the first skill point, it says it costs 400 points just for that one point. If I select all 7 of the Power points I have, it says it would cost 1800 coins.
And then when I look at Putting, where I also have 7 skill points, if I want to retrain the first skill point, it says it will cost 200. If I want to do all 7, it shows a cost of 800.Oddly, it seems that Driving Control, Approach and Short Game skill points are working the way I'd expect, where each point is 50 coins to retrain.

I'm with you on everything except for the dispersion zone, I would rather have the swing mechanic be more sensitive to input than a bigger random area where the ball could end up.
It needs to be more input driven than some random event.
As I have been saying from day one, those developing this game are not true golfers.

I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PHYSICS OF THE GAME. This is a video game and I simply want to compete against other players online. But no cross play,, no in game chat, no community clubs and player created tourneys, and worst of all the fact they keep forcing these foursome team games noone wnats to play while making us constantly reque every damn 2 mins if we don't get neough players, Is basically ea telling its playerbase to fk off!. And on the PC they did. Its over, literally noone is playing on the pc online when a couple months ago the game was literally growing. I'm absolutely infuriated i wasted a whopping 80 dollars for this obvious bare bones cash grab that ea apparently resents so much they are literally sabotaging it.. Who the fk is going to sit here and hit the que button every 2 mins for an hour. You guys want development of the courses and physics biut that won't continue to happen with no players buying the game... and that comes from communities of people playing together online. period.

What you say is partly true. But have you considered the reason no one is playing the game is because the majority of players are NOT interested in playing an arcade golf game?
Communities and online features don't matter if the game isn't worth playing.
I know that many complain about how difficult/unplayable 2K is... I disagree and have always felt they included something for everyone if you wanted to adjust some game settings. Plus if it is so unplayable, why is everyone still playing it?
I don't know how many more forks EA is going to keep sticking in their game. I thought it was pretty much done on arrival.
People on this forum have been making suggestions on the betterment of this game since the day it released. And it was clear back then, and even more so now the developers have their own agenda and no clue on how to create a good golfing environment in a golf game.
It's like the Chargers of the NFL, I don't know how with so many resources available to you... to make things worse with every update? I think it is pretty obvious the head coach needs to go.

I have to disagree - the majority of my circle (ok, all of my circle) are waiting for the stable arcade version of the game. The themes, rotating game modes and minimal lobbies drove them away. There is a huge crowd that wants to live vicariously through this game and get the rush of being able to hole out to make the difference in a game instead of just hoping the other player messes up. Amateur should allow you to use muscle memory to repeat a shot - wind, elevation and swing should be the variables and not putting a ghost in the machine to make you fallible.

I am okay with an arcade game but they need to cater to everyone. I don't think anyone who plays golf would call this anything other than an arcade game.
What you seem to be asking for is a stable game, and I think that should have been a given for a AAA title.
Themes, rotating game modes etc... are more directed towards arcade features than anything to do with the actual golf. I don't expect to see pumpkins and the sort on the courses I play on IRL.
I think what you are complaining about is the RNG baked into the game. I have said since the beginning they over did this... that RNG should never have been a main function of introducing difficulty into the game.
That you should always be rewarded for the execution of a good shot.
RNG should kick in the more if a swing is off the swing path or poorly timed.
I think we really need to ask ourselves why there are no people in the lobby. It is because no one is interested in playing this game in it's current state.
And I would say participation has continued to decline after the games initial release. After the honeymoon period it has been a pretty steady decline.

Nope, not even a consideration because I played every golf game on the pc since ea's first golf game, world tour golf, in 1986. I was part of huge communities playing pg tour franchise up to tw08 on the pc. All my friends and family played, we even met up with people we met online through the game in real life. This is an e-sport, period. The only suggestions that could better this game, are those that encourage fair play and competitive matchups and social interactions. Catering to people who want to play the most realistic sim they can offline by themselves, is why the game is dying. And when we say dying, we are of course referring to the number of players we see in the online tournaments and and online qeues. There is literally no other gauge.
Even the forums are dead, when the game first came out there tons of more people on the forums calling for turn based match play as the biggest request which EA ignored for months before implementing online in a half * way. now the only people left are guys like you and elf calling this game mario cart. crazy... - 2 years ago

The random area for shots from the fairway are generally fine. Shots from the rough need much bigger random areas for the simple fact that in real golf, the amount of grass between your club face and the ball creates randomness. Someone can still hit a perfect swing from the rough and have imperfect results.
Just noticed that, even if you have aiming arcs and everything off, you now get the orange icon on screen if you're going to hit a tree or something. Can that be turned off now somewhere? I'd prefer to play with a more "sim" style and as clean a screen as I can.

I think you misunderstand me... I have stated from the beginning that I never minded some randomness in the game. Because controller input is too precise.
My issue has always been that the RNG in this game overrides shot execution. You shouldn't require skill points or specs to hit a straight shot when your swing path and timing are perfect.
Im fine with a 1° dispersion for a perfectly executed shot... and it deviating more from there for poor shots. Meaning a perfectly hit 300 yard drive could be as much as 3 yards off line. But when you hit a good shot and it is 25 yards off line, that seems excessive.
You also shouldn't be able to spin the ball as much as you can from heavy rough either. I would love to have a closeup view of the ball lie to determine how deep my ball is in the lie and the direction of the grass to judge how my ball might come out. Or the type of lie in a bunker. But those things are not in the game either.

I heard someone complain it shows up if the lip of a fairway bunker is in the way as well.
I would love for them to allow us to disable as much as we wanted from the screen. To allow us find a playing environment thst suits us. Rather than pigeonhole us in their presets.
As I have said... the developers don't seem to understand there is a whole other segment of players out there who are highly skilled at playing these games and don't require or want all these assists.
Having watched them play in some of the online videos, they really are on the lower end as being able to be successful at the game.

Have been playing a few holes at St Andrews, where lie ranges and "resistance" was supposedly changed in the patch...I have seen basically no difference. I am still getting 92-97% lies in knee-high grass when using Approach or Finesse shots, and am still getting 100% lies when using the "Hack".

I am still trying the understand the purpose of multiple rough depths that you adjust in the game for the primary and secondary cut. When percentage loss doesn't seem to matter.

The news that they were finally going to start increasing the lie penalties and "resistance" as they put it, on St. Andrews with this patch, was very exciting to many of us. I guess that means for them to increase the ridiculously easy rough and tall grass issues, they have to do it one course at a time. It was encouraging to see in the patch notes that they were addressing this with St. Andrews first.
However, at least at this point, it seems to be a total non starter. See this link at Operation Sports for very specific screen shots and situations where I tried purposely to hit into the nastiest stuff at St. Andrews, and never saw less than 93-97% lie, with any shot type or club. It just *didn't get changed*. Very, very disappointing.

I love this game and play it every day, over 450 hours at this point since pre launch. The most glaring issue with the game at this point, other than not being able to play on the couch with your friend or wife as created players, is how there is literally no penalty or "resistance" for hitting the ball in the rough, let alone weeds up to your chest at places like St. Andrews (and every other course). I was encouraged when I saw they were addressing this with this patch, but after 3 hours of trying to prove myself wrong about how it didn't change anything, it's obvious nothing has changed with the lie penalties at St. Andrews. - PalomaMarvel242 years agoSeasoned Ace

100% Agree with your comment. If there is no physics in this game, there will be no players who would want to play. There is a song by the Sex Pistols called "No Future" with the ending of the song repeating the title. If physics is not addressed, that song would be playing on the future of the franchise.

I don't know what You mean by physics. But I think this game already has better graphics and physics than 2k. By the way, I have quit playing this game since August and have played 2K23 since.2K23 has way better physics than this game. When I am talking about physics, this game has the ball levitating above the cup which should never happen. Also I am playing in Xbox Series X. Don’t ever call me a cheater; I only play single player modes and don’t even play online. Your accusation is preposterous and inappropriate.

When I refer to physics I mean the feel of the game feeling more life like. 2k23 graphics are a little clunky the way swings are and the ball flies and moves. I dunno man. You don't even play online? You might as well stick with this game then lol. Personally graphics and physics are the least of my priorties. I think everything else is more important because I DO play online. I find your post strange and suspicious. And who called you cheater? strange....
