That is a great question...
You would think that the label PRO would mean you need a competent level of skill to produce a good score in the game.
My expectations (obviously my personal opinion, no one needs to agree), are that BEGINNER would have all the aids enabled. A sandbox for those that need it to learn the intricacies of the game, how wind affects ball flight, how much the green breaks... etc.
AMATUER, PROAM, PRO, etc... would disable all the aids... but the sensitivity to the swing input would gradually increase as you go up levels in play.
And finally SIM, you turn off everything.
I'm also not adversed to slowly removing the aids as the difficulty levels increase, but by PRO... all the aids should be disabled for the presets.
As you say... this game is far to easy. Currently they need another 2 or 3 higher difficulty settings. The current PRO setting should be called AMATEUR with the way the preset is configured and high difficulty it provides.
Just wondering has anyone from ea ever held a golf club in their hands.

"Pro" in the context as descirbed by you is just a level for the 2nd easiest difficult level - and this is just a case of making them all sound "good" (as many games do).
As we have
- Arcade
- Pro
- Tour
- Sim
and they're just labels for different levels of difficulty, we might as well translate them as
- Beginner
- Normal
- Hard
- Nightmare
or whatever labelling we'd like.
However i think the OP refers to the AI not being tough enough - which is different a different "Pro" --> Professional golfers as represented in the game.
I play on default ai difficulty in career (with custom game difficulty) and that's easy by now, i'd agree, but i don't know how effective the difficulty slider is - i read contradicting things about it many claiming it's completely broken (again, i can't deny or confirm).
@IrieGibbonzI like your description of Sim as Nightmare. I have tried how AI behaves with sliders set to different levels. I normally go with AI set between 0 and 35. They still could score and it is beginner. It becomes hard when I set AI to 70. It is a nightmare if set to 100. I am an arcade player and that’s what I see. Advanced gamers see it in a different perspective.
I prefer to play with easy AI because I just want casual time to enjoy.
@PalomaMarvel24Sounds like the ai difficulty slider works, but the range should be bigger (0 should be even easier as is, 100 should be even harder as is). Maybe something EA can tweak in the future?
With regards to the casual time to enjoy, i think that's one thing the game actually does a fantastic job with: Scalability. I play kinda on pro difficulty but with shot shaping enabled because i like the feel of being in full control, while having all the "tools" the game provides.
Obviously in "competitive" online modes we have to stick to given set difficulty presets.
@ELF014I couldn't agree more with the triple bogey equals next hole situation:
Recently i had local multiplayer going with a friend who is completely new to the game (i showed it to him like let's play a round or 2) and there's been multiple occasions he couldn't finish the hole, which really is bad publicity when potential new players are exposed to that first time they play - their friend doing birdies and eagles all the time and they aren't even allowed to sink the ball... EA should REALLY make this optional.
With regards to many players stopping because the game being too easy - i'm not in that boat personally but looking at the top scores in online tournaments, i can imagine that being true.
On the other side of the spectrum i can also see a lot of average players stopping because the scores they see appear completely unreasonable (especially to new players that never played old TW) and every time they shell out a few 1000 VC for online tournaments they end up loosing out.
IMHO we have a great game here, but EA really needs to ensure they cater to their whole audience before it's too late - provide engaging "endgame" content for very skilled people (i can only think of "make ai harder" but you might have more ideas), but at the same time provide chances for less skilled players to meaningfully engage in online content / stop the constant loosing out some people have to endure (i don't know, a league system, re-balance tournament payouts, something on that line).
@IrieGibbonzMy mistake if he is talking about AI difficulty, I thought was talking about the playing defaults, as there is no PRO setting for the AI.
I agree with you that the terms are just labels that are meaningless.
I play pretty much SIM settings with the AI set at 100%. To be honest I did not notice any perceived difference in the scoring.
Besides the inconsistency in the gameplay, I think the second reason people have stopped playing is because the game is far too easy.
Also being that a triple bogey is the max score on a hole it doesn't really lend itself to on-line competitive play either.
