That is a great question...
You would think that the label PRO would mean you need a competent level of skill to produce a good score in the game.
My expectations (obviously my personal opinion, no one needs to agree), are that BEGINNER would have all the aids enabled. A sandbox for those that need it to learn the intricacies of the game, how wind affects ball flight, how much the green breaks... etc.
AMATUER, PROAM, PRO, etc... would disable all the aids... but the sensitivity to the swing input would gradually increase as you go up levels in play.
And finally SIM, you turn off everything.
I'm also not adversed to slowly removing the aids as the difficulty levels increase, but by PRO... all the aids should be disabled for the presets.
As you say... this game is far to easy. Currently they need another 2 or 3 higher difficulty settings. The current PRO setting should be called AMATEUR with the way the preset is configured and high difficulty it provides.
"Pro" in the context as descirbed by you is just a level for the 2nd easiest difficult level - and this is just a case of making them all sound "good" (as many games do).
As we have
- Arcade
- Pro
- Tour
- Sim
and they're just labels for different levels of difficulty, we might as well translate them as
- Beginner
- Normal
- Hard
- Nightmare
or whatever labelling we'd like.
However i think the OP refers to the AI not being tough enough - which is different a different "Pro" --> Professional golfers as represented in the game.
I play on default ai difficulty in career (with custom game difficulty) and that's easy by now, i'd agree, but i don't know how effective the difficulty slider is - i read contradicting things about it many claiming it's completely broken (again, i can't deny or confirm).
@IrieGibbonzMy mistake if he is talking about AI difficulty, I thought was talking about the playing defaults, as there is no PRO setting for the AI.
I agree with you that the terms are just labels that are meaningless.
I play pretty much SIM settings with the AI set at 100%. To be honest I did not notice any perceived difference in the scoring.
Besides the inconsistency in the gameplay, I think the second reason people have stopped playing is because the game is far too easy.
Also being that a triple bogey is the max score on a hole it doesn't really lend itself to on-line competitive play either.
