Re: Game Is Too Easy

If you still have the putting grid, that’s not sim difficulty.

I do agree the game is easy, but the only way you will get somewhat of a challenge is by having no aides, no zoom, no wind or elevation meter, no swing meter, no putting grid etc etc

I disabled the swing meter and use the movement of the avatar's swing instead.  What I still use is wind and elevation and the grid because in real life you would know how strong the wind is and how much of an elevation difference there is.  Turning off the grid, wind and elevation is an "artificial" way of making the game more difficult.  The swing has to be made more difficult and putting weight should be by feel rather than having a display of the weight moving a marker forward or backwards.

I also have 2K23 which I really don't particularly like that much but the full swing is a real challenge compared to EA's game.  The fact that it is way more challenging means regardless of how unrealistic a lot of elements of the game are there is more satisfaction when you pull off a shot.  In 2K23 I play at Master level, again with the putting grid and after playing more than double the hours I have played EA golf my best score is an 82.  Keep in mind that Master level is one below the most difficulty level of Legend.

How is turning off the green grid artificial?

You wouldn’t know the exact wind strength irl either, especially if you have the setting on wind gusts

your approximate wind is given to you before you start the round.

trust me, you will not be shooting a 61 every round with all these aides switched off.

I basically agree with the OP, and have been stating the same concerns since I started playing the game. Except in my case I do turn off all the additional aids except for wind direction, and like the OP the green grid. Like him, I don't feel the wormcam gives you much information. That you can't provide a very good 3D representation on a 2D screen.

I have played multiple rounds without the green grids and have shot -5 each time. So I expect the OP would be about the same.

I would argue with how tempo should work in the game. EA doesn't need to use the same swing mechanics as 2K. I would rather tempo be tied to distance, which it appears it is. But I would like to see the swing path be more sensitive, that straight is 1 pixel wide... and every pixel missed is exponentially wider.

The game is much too easy as it is. It is more about course management than shot execution.

It’s a lot more realistic than knowing exact wind speed, elevation, and a blue arc showing exact direction

I know everyone is different but challenging for me is fun and more rewarding

@blue4eva77 Yes, that true. However, we don't know the exact wind speed because it varies. Like 8-12 MPH. The elevation is good to know because how else are you going to be able to tell. As for the blue ark, I don't use that either because it makes it to easy. I agree with you though.

I agree with you. Disabling all the aids, meters, elevation and wind speeds gives the game more realism. Removing the green grid would too, however technology doesn't provide enough definition to make this possible. Maybe once we can play this game in VR.

However... if they let us disable the reticule in all modes, I think that would be a great option too. Not being able to dial-in your distance with the reticule would go a long way. But they would need to do a full rework with the putting.

  • For me, this game, right now, is perfect for me for scoring.  I'm always hovering around par, and have an occasional good round.

The only aide I use is elevation.  I use the hardest swing and normal putting.

The other big deal with difficulty is to not go crazy on player golf attributes or specs.  I play with about 6 ticks on driving distance, and no ticks on driving accuracy or control.  On the recovery sections I have no ticks, and about 6 ticks each for accuracy and control.  I've made it a point to make sure that I have only a silver on Finesse, and only use that attribute when it comes up as the default type (I think with only degree wedges, which seems to be the most realistic way to use them the Finesse.)

I do not use the Flop type at all.  And I'm about to outlaw the pick shot, too.

It would be nice (and fanciful) if we could have a section where we could select what attributes and spec types will be allowed, before teeing off.

I can get a straight-planned swing probably about 65-70% of the time.  If users are getting a straight plane all the time, then it's time for a new controller.

I do think that for the most part if you start a new player, add a little to the distances (driving, and a spec, say, for all clubs) and play without! aids (or add nothing and play on the Red tees), then that might not be considered too easy.

But once this happens and the old random element returns, then no one will be happy.

You should be able to turn all the aids off in the game. The game is currently far too easy and will be the death of it. They seem to have designed the game for the casual player, and I think it has become pretty clear that anyone with any understanding of golf is posting ridiculously low scores on a regular basis.

As far as knowing the elevation difference... use your eyes like in real life. This is how we play both EA and 2K... just take your best guess. It adds a randomness to the game that improves the experience in my opinion.

Being able to dail-in every yardage in a math equation takes away a lot of the fun and challenge in the game. Not that there is much challenge in this one.
