Thankfully there is no way to buy XP so there is no simple pay to win mechanic there.

Basically everything you do in the game earns you XP though. Every hole you play gives you 1000 XP plus some small bonuses depending on how well you do (up to about an extra 5-10%). 

The free to enter daily tournament is worth at least trying as it's only 4 holes and is a good source of Reward Points that you can spend on Specs to improve your player's performance (or cosmetic items like clothing and clubs).

If you're new to the game I would suggest you spend at least some time on the Coaching Academy challenges as they're the way the game tries (badly!) to teach you some important elements of the game, as well as being a source of XP.
