Ok please accept my dumbness but I've struggled with shot shaping once I went to the Tour mode, and not even attempted it on sim.

I play using a PS5 and found the vibration when trying to draw, or fade pretty difficult.

Am I meant to use the right control instead?

With a finesse shot, it goes pretty much the direction where it's supposed to go no matter what for me. If I'm using drive or approach shots, it can go anywhere if I overswing and if it's windy, devs at ea must be lmol.

I don't use the shaping as I find it gimmicky. It is not how you would do it in real life. I actually have it disabled in my settings.

HOWEVER... if you want to use it, you can still swing naturally. Meaning a straight vertical swing... the shape of your shot will just be opposite of what you would expect. I found I seldom needed to really shape the ball in this game.

Shot shaping was one great tool to use in the TW Series. I remembered being able to account for wind with shot shaping in TW14. For current game, the shot shaping works well in some courses but sux in other courses like Cardi Creek (aka Wolf Creek) with wind. The RNG is what makes shot shaping more difficult in this game especially at tour/sim levels. Some advanced players from youtube videos are so great in using shot shaping that I could not even keep up. That’s why I miss the TW series.

I don’t see this feature as gimmicky. If the ball had 007’s gadgets like parachutes and rockets, that would be gimmicky. For Cardi Creek with wind, players might need 007’s gadgets to get through the RNG.

  • @ELF014 I have to disagree about it in real life golf.

when I played well I would draw the ball well especially off the tee. Occasionally I would also need to hook or slice/fade the ball if a tree didn't allow for the ball to be hit with a straight or slight draw or fade

That's not what I am saying... I agree in real life there are times I want to work the ball around an obstruction or to hold thecball into a strong wind.

My point was how EA wants you to execute the shot that is gimmicky. I do not swing my club across my body unnaturally to create hook or slice. I do it in my setup, my swing stays the same. I guess you could, but I don't know anybody good enough to do it that way.

  • @ELF014 unfortunately I can't even play anymore, but I would change my stance but would tweak my swing a little. I only reached an 11 handicap. might have got it lower if I had had my last ever lesson a lot earlier, and also if I never kept having long breaks from playing the game.

I hit my 1st ball (very badly) as a 9 year old, but had to give up around 7 years ago (really struggled over the last year). The trouble was I had too many times I was having 4-5 years not hitting a ball

I didn't play regularly either... it is rather expensive and difficult to get tee times where I live. Though I did play regularly one season when I joined a club.

I was about an 8 or 9 handicap... My game was better than that but I always seemed to have 1 or 2 holes where I took a triple or more. Most people wouldn't gamble with me on a hole to hole basis because they didn't feel my handicap reflected my game.

But I haven't picked up an actual club in 7 years... and before that it had been another 5 years. And shooting in the low 90's that day sort of took the fun out of the game for me. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to get my game back where it was... I just don't want to invest the time.

  • My lowest handicap was a 9, but due to business, I couldn't find the time to practice 3 - 4 times a week to maintain that handicap. It's all about the practice. I could cut the ball at will, but never had a consistent draw.

My father taught me the game when I was 6. He maintained a 2 - 3 handicap, and practiced almost daily. Plus, he had twice the talent I had on the course.

I Play EA at the hardest level with shot shaping. The shot shaping is fairly representative of hitting a shot shape on a real course. The game is amazing, and can't wait for what's to come.

@Bogeygolf83 I struggle with shot shaping once I hit tour mode, I struggle with the vibrations on the grip. I can occasionally hit a decent drive trying.

as I said I started when I was 9 and until 1991 I was able to walk around a course, but after that I had no option to use a buggy. I was lucky that my job allowed me to play regular but I still never played constantly. I would play for 4-6 years, then I would take 4-5 years off. it took a lot of golf in my last stint an 1 important 9 hole golf lesson. when I started my last stint, It was like I'd never hit a ball in my life, and after putting in my first 3 cards I started off playing off of 24. I was that bad I went out to 26, then decided to have a 9 hole playing lesson. I never looked back, but just before I got to 11 my mobility issues started effecting me, but after going from 11.5 to 11.9 I had a very good round that meant going down to 11. the next year I struggled every round and went out to 13.5. I started playing less and got punished by the club so finished up with a 15.5 and haven't picked up a club since
