Rough Too Easy

On the whole, best golf game to date on console. Really like that limited skill points supports different play styles; in theory. However, the reality is that if you boost power up to 8 you get a huge advantage online, because you can have zero approach recovery skills with no ill effects as even “heavy rough” has little effect. You can even spin the ball from the rough (which has not really been possible since they banned U-grooves). The result is you can just.bomb the driver and wedge it in. If the rough was a real penalty then hitting massive power drives would be genuine risk/reward shots. As it stands i’m there is no risk (or very little). Going into US Open style rough should cost you a shot, 1/2 a shot at least.

  • So I just went into 2K for the first time in a year and couldn't believe how fast the swing meter moved. I felt like I was watching an old movie where they sped up the film to try and make it sillier. I only went to the driving range and was totally frustrated with the tempo. I'll stick to this game even though it has its problems. At least I have some control of my tempo and can adjust it for different shots.

But to get back on point to this thread. The only time I have seen unmanageable rough in this game was on one of the tour challenges at Bay Hill where you have to hit a 209 yard shot to the green under and around tress and over water. The rough, even using a hack shot with an iron, was at @80%. Hybrids went down to 55-60%. Never did get a shot close to the green. Wonder why they don't translate that toughness to the regular game.
