shots and shot types
(EA) needs to add ALL shot types to each different approach/bunker/whatever, its stupid having 2 (TWO) shots out of a bunker from inside 20 yards. im sick of being limited to certain shots from parts...

What I have proposed instead is to remove all the shot types, and instead allow us to manipulate the characters stance to execute whatever shot we want.
Allow us to open or close the characters stance to hit a fade/draw... move the ball forward or backward in the stance to add a little height or trap the ball... and the ability to open the club face to hit a high lofted shot. And everything time we make an adjustment... the further from a stock swing the timing become incrementally more difficult.
For beginners... in the lower levels of difficulty you can disable or minimize this timing parameter... as well as enabling a shot arc so they can understand how each change in stance effects the ball flight.
For more established players they can play with all these aids disabled.
This would make for a much more realistic and challenging game in my opinion with a full palette to make whatever shot you want from wherever you want with no limitations.
I would also like to see the swing speed accelerate progressively faster from the start of the swing to the top. This way a pitch or chip would feel like a more realistic motion, and you could use the same swing for all shots. Plus timing a fast swing near the top for perfect yardage would be incrementally more difficult than a pitch shot with a 3/4 swing. Again more representative of real life.
First up, note that all shot types are made available to new players in the Coaching Academy, which whilst terribly signposted is intended as the games tutorial.
My personal view: I enjoyed the game mechanic of all shot types not being available for normal play at the start of the game, with an incentive to keep playing being to accumulate skill points, develop my golfer and explore what may ultimately be optimal for my play-style. Note that whilst there is a reward point cost it is intentionally possible to re-allocate skill points to explore different options. Whilst I absolutely get that not everyone will have gained any pleasure from this core gameplay mechanic, I'm also confident I'm not alone in having enjoyed this aspect and as such my vote would be a strong 'no' against the notion of his needing to be 'fixed'. For keen players I'm sure most will have fully unlocked everything by now anyway so it's moot for them, and later adopters I'd suggest are if anything likely to be more casual players more inclined to enjoy the current mechanic IMHO.

I don't think you understand what the OP was complaining about. It is not the fact that shot types are not available from the beginning. It is that available shot types cannot be used at any time.
I noticed this the first week I played the game, you can only hit certain types of shots from certain places in the game. Shot types are not always available to you... this is not restricted to when you are in the sand.

What specific limitations do you think there are that would benefit from being changed? On the specific example of bunkers close to the green it's not immediately obvious to me what the benefit of expanding shot type range would be if the Pick still remained the clearly best shot type to use?

I was advocating for no shot types... that you would need to learn how to adjust your players stance and setup to hit any shot you wanted.
With an aiming arc enabled for those who need it, players could quickly learn how each shot type was executed... doing away with shot types in the game.
But to answer your question... I cannot name them, but there are several shot types made unavailable to you during play at different times. Even out in the fairway... I haven't played with anything but my base character in a longtime. But I remember wanting to hit something and it was not available to me. I think I wanted to chip something out of the rough because it was a bit tight to control the short pitching distance I needed, plus I wanted to keep it under some branches. I think another time the finesse shot was not available to me. Again don't quote me... it's was a long time ago.
In 2K your full array of shots are available with a few caveats (ie. Only certain shots can be hit from a sandtrap).
But you are not wrong... why would you ever hit anything other than a PICK from a bunker given the choice. Which is one of the reasons we play with base characters now.
In my opinion the PICK and FLOP shots should be exponentially more difficult to execute with punishing outcomes if mistimed badly. RISK/REWARD should come into play when choosing between a BLAST vs PICK or PITCH/CHIP vs FLOP shot. Currently there is no risk using the PICK of FLOP over the other shots once you are in range and they are deadly accurate with total disregard for the slopes on the green.
I would personally like to see a badly timed PICK/FLOP shot of anything greater than +0.1 be thinned and go shooting low 20 plus yards further than expected. Anything -0.1 would be hit fat and go a few feet to a few inches. With a full maxed out character I was always landing inside 3 feet of the pin... usually inside 1 foot.
