Spin in advance?

Backspin, roll?

Can i set backspin before the shot. I use Right Stick for swinging and trying to then use the R Stick and a Button to spin is impossible, and in general makes me fluff the shot. I don't want to add it in flight, not very real. I would like to take my shot with all my draw and spin set before i hit the ball?

The tutorials with very little tutoring and just challenges are a bit lame... unless I'm missing something?

Hey @kvarga74 Thanks for taking a moment to reach out to the EA Sports PGA Tour community!

If you are looking for how to get started and learn the basic controls, I'd recommend checking out the Coach Acamedy Challenges.

For information on how to access them, check out our post: EA Sports PGA Tour - Getting Started

as advised these do not tell you how to do something, just challenges you to do it.

Also you have not answered my question at all. I am asking if there is a way to do this before playing a shot, instead of during?

I would appreciate telling me the answer to my question, not just telling me where to find coaching, I have looked through the coaching and the answer wasn't there, that is why I am here.

  • @kvarga74 I think that like in real golf, you don't decide to apply spin on it, the type of shot you will play will or not. So ajust your shot to HIGH and the spin will differ from long iron vs short, and the lie.

But there is a ball at the bottom of the screen that shows spin, this doesn't change with the loft.I cannot se a way to interact with it before the shot.. only during.

You also can apply back spin in real golf... I mean I cant... but people can... I mean in Real golf its 50/50 to go forwards 🙂

  • the more loft/higher you hit the ball the more backspin you will get. as the club goes further under the ball, but remember that if you are in deeper grass, the grass actually gets in-between the ball and the clubs grooves, leading to less grip/less spin.

  • @strych919 this is untrue. you do not add spin by scooping underneath the ball. you strike down on it and pinch it between turf and face of club.. Here lies the divide.. arcade golfers will never get it right.

Just to add, by face of the club you mean the grooves of the club interacting with the ball... the softer the ball the better bite... moree spin. Grass between the grooves and the ball much less spin. And I haven't seen anyone get this right, swing speed matters... the faster the swing the more spin imparted on the ball. Lie angle would also matter.

BUT... assuming all things are equal. It is generally accepted in games that higher loft, an up slope lie from the fairway into a green sloped towards you will elicit more spin.

However in this game I have found things to be all over the map.

And if the OP is talking about longer irons... I have no explanation for the dropoff in the rollout of a ball between a 5 and a 6 iron when hitting approaches into a green.
