Just to add, by face of the club you mean the grooves of the club interacting with the ball... the softer the ball the better bite... moree spin. Grass between the grooves and the ball much less spin. And I haven't seen anyone get this right, swing speed matters... the faster the swing the more spin imparted on the ball. Lie angle would also matter.
BUT... assuming all things are equal. It is generally accepted in games that higher loft, an up slope lie from the fairway into a green sloped towards you will elicit more spin.
However in this game I have found things to be all over the map.
And if the OP is talking about longer irons... I have no explanation for the dropoff in the rollout of a ball between a 5 and a 6 iron when hitting approaches into a green.
