I played Rory and TW14
The latter of which was drop dead simple to hit every fairway and the former of which was just too easy in every single phase of the game
(putting in Rory was some of the worst in any golf game ever -- devoid of any feel or touch with physics around cup interaction that were just totally wrong)
And we have the developers saying things like "we didn't want the short game to be too hard, so we nixed controlling distance with the analog swing" (paraphrasing)
Basically there is no mention or even insinuation of any challenge or mastery element to shot execution itself.
Picking shot types is a different aspect altogether.
All indications are that actual perfect (or close enough) swing execution will largely be a foregone conclusion and the "challenge" will all be relegated to aiming arrow for distance control & direction, as well as perhaps proper shot type. Your point about the new way of executing draw/fade is well made however. That should be interesting and is good to see.
The aiming arrow/distance control system always becomes too easy to figure out and consistently "game" -- which sucks for online play and leads to very unrealistic scoring also.
