Forum Discussion
I have made a thread that virtually compared other golf games with this one. That post mentions that this game should take the positive features of the other golf games to make a better one.
The two best golf games I played was the last Tiger Woods PGA Tour and PGA Tour 2K21. The last TW game had gameface and an easy to follow gameplay. PGA Tour 2K21 had awesome gameplay and customization. I got impatient with PGA Tour 2K23 since the second update force my ball to the left regardless of shot. I would have enjoyed EA PGA Tour more if Update 3.0 was not implemented. Update 3.0 made RNG worse and added lip outs.
The link to that post is shown below.
I think that the title of the thread may be a bit harsh.
I have worked in the field not as a programmer but in other capacities. And in my experience they are working to spec.
They are given the parameters of what is being required. I blame the game's architect, there is a person or a group of people that have the ultimate say on how the game looks and plays. All the design considerations. It appears this is the person that lacks a full understanding of how to play golf. That they didn't reach out to professionals in the field for input.
Or we could be the one's at fault, that this was never intended to be anything more than Mario Golf, no matter how it was marketed to us.

@ELF014 Here’s what I’d change about the game in how it plays
Spin is always natural and some of it is WAY WAY over the top.
Chip shots are far too short (ie from the start, I should be able to carry a 60 wedge chip at least 18-20 yards or more)
Cup physics feel artificial. Are there even any physics in this game?
We should be able to adjust lofts of our irons by a degree or so and also adjust lie angles to compensate for shots that go left or right (that might sound a lot to do actually!)
Have much less RNG in the game and harder swing difficulties added that make the swing more sensitive to deviations int he swing plane and tempo
Have more shot types available to us from the start. Even with my real world handicap of 14, I can flop one out of a high lipped bunker and get it to stop quickly. The blast shot on this game is absolutely useless. The finesse shot should also be available to us from the start
There’s definitely more id change about the game, but I’ll stop for now or I’ll still be here next week about this 😆

You are asking the wrong person, I have absolutely no idea how this games mechanics work. I don't understand why using the same club hitting to the same distance... where I land on an uphill lie and the ball rolls forward, or adversely when it lands on a downhill lie and spins back 30 feet.
Chip shots are far too short (ie from the start, I should be able to carry a 60 wedge chip at least 18-20 yards or more)
I hate the concept of all these different shot types... I think what you are describing though is the gap between a chip and a pitch shot. I personally consider it a chip if I am carrying a ball 20 yards.

I haven't played the game in a month, but other than the roll overs, and the odd direction of a few lip outs. I'm kind of okay with the putting. However... I would like to see putts favour lip ins on the high side of the hole. Be I have never seen a golf sim do that. The hole mechanics should be offset to high side of the cup to receive the ball.

I'm not sure what you mean by this comment.

I absolutely agree with this comment, and have been fighting for this from the start. RNG should not be determining tye difficulty settings in a game. A perfectly executed shot should return in good result. PERIOD!
But in saying that I believe in a small amount of RNG to make the game feel more natural. Life is not perfect and neither are we.

I don't play anymore but I was 9 handicap when I did. I didn't think I was a great golfer but I could get around a track.
I would rather NOT have shot types. Insteas just allow us to fully manipulate or player by opening the stance... and moving the ball forward and backwards in our stance.
Based on this we can hit whatever shot we want... and we can be creative about it. Of course the more you manipulate your stance, the better timing is required to execute the shot.
For different levels of players you can include a shot result line so people can learn what adjusting your stance does. And difficulty can be controlled by how sensitive the shot timing is.
There’s definitely more id change about the game, but I’ll stop for now or I’ll still be here next week about this 😆
There is lots in this game thst could be better... a good start for me would be if I could just find a good golfing experience in there somewhere.
When I stopped playing this game we were playing with base players (NO SKILL POINTS and NO SPECS), using SIM under the hardest settings. And it was still basically a birdiefest.

@ELF014 I’ll explain a couple of things and I know you’ll understand what I mean. Regarding chip shots, they’re just very unrealistically short in that it’s easy to play a 20+ yard chip shot in real life and by that I mean, the shot carries 20 yards. Pitch shots are also a little short too
What I mean by loft and lie angle adjustments is that for example, I might like my 5 iron to be a degree stronger to plug a little gap between that and the club above for example and by lie angle, I mean the angle at which the shaft points to when you address the ball. A flatter angle promotes a shot that launches left a little more for a right handed player whereas a more upright angle promotes a launch that goes more right. Of course this cannot be done cosmetically, but within the mechanics.
Regarding shot types, I’m going to agree with you. It’d be great for us to be able to manipulate our player’s stance and club so that we can get creative with our shot types
While I’m here, I’d really like to see penalty areas and OB areas marked on our hole maps. It’s frustrating to hit a shot, have RNG take over and the ball to land in an area that seems okay only for the game to tell us it’s out of bounds. I played a round at Royal Liverpool on the game and I actually referred to my real course yardage book for the course and it worked. I think I shot a 67 or something 😆
Thanks as always. It’s always good to see input from someone else who actually understands the game of golf. A 9 handicapper, trust me, thats a pretty good level. When was the last time you played for real? I’d love to hear.
Thanks again.
