I've been playing a bit after the latest update having not played at all for at least a month. I've been hitting straight shots just fine and only occasionally messing up a swing when going for an angled swing plane. If anything I was wondering if it had got easier as I wasn't struggling after not playing for a bit so my suspicion is there's an issue with your controller @RichAC .
Edit: for context I play on PS5.

than it must be my controller. I dunno man. all of a sudden after not playing a while I can't hit straight. I bought the controller for the game so maybe when it was new it was easier? Honestly I gave up on the game. I no longer stand a chance against any of the competition in the online match play which tells me the game is pretty dead.
