Thanks for the reply @niterhk .
Since you can access the game mode selection menu with internet data off, could you try the following please?
1. Turn off WiFi and internet data and start PVZ2
2. Press play to enter the game mode selection menu (access to Adventure is ok while Penny;s and Arena are locked)
3. Double click the home button, get to setting and turn WiFi back on
4. Get back to the PVZ2 App, wait a few seconds until Arena mode is unlocked. Could you check if it allows you to enter the Arena without locking up or resetting the App?

First instance of doing the above steps, I successfully got into the Arena, but the game would crash out to the Home screen once I tried to return to the main game mode menu. Second instance, in step 4 instead of entering the Arena I tapped on the trolley button to enter the store and was successful, but again once I left it to return to the main menu the game would crash out. I repeated these steps again and could enter Penny's Pursuit, but then again the game would crash if I left it.
Any idea what might be causing these crashes?

@niterhk Thanks for trying out the suggestions and feedback.
Below are my guesses so it could be incorrect.
When you disabled internet data, the game cannot obtain forced ads to your game, so by bypassing the connection from the main screen, you can access the locked game modes such as Arena and Penny. When you exit these mode, the game would try to connect, load and play the forced ads, and it could be the ads which crashed the game. If this is the case, it is not something you or I can fix, this is the job for the EA Help Center, but I would only use them as the last resort as the reponse and support is frankly not that great for this kind of issue.
One option you can try is to delete the game and re-install it from fresh (as a new account) to see if this issue is cleared, If so, then proceed to reload you old account by registering with your email to recover your old saved account. If the issue returns, then this is a strong evident the data corruption is embedded in your saved data from the server so you will have no alternative but to contact EA Help Center for help.
