Your original player id number is the one associated with your missing account.
As @eieio_31310 says, we have been trying for years to get EA to tell players to save this vital number without success.
A huge chunk of the problems popping up in the official forum are from disappeared accounts, and most players don't realise how vital their player id number is.
Is pvz2 on an old device?
If it is then the game will not have updated yet and your old player id number will still be on it.
You can still use the email registration scheme to restore your old account because it is associated with your old player id number.
i recently ported it over from a old ipad just this year without any issues, i have the game on 3 different devices, and each device automatically updates the game when i launch it, it does not allow me to go into the game screen without updating. I have tried using the email registration scheme from a Youtube video but it does not work, everytime now it starts into a new profile. Also I did manage to get it into a screen with the game prompting me that i have a profile in the game but it was the fresh new game profile.
I am at a loss on what else to do without the player ID, my mother played this game for 10+ years everyday and she's pretty down about the whole thing

The reason i mentioned old devices is that they tend to get switched off and thrown into a drawer when a newer one comes along.
The only thing that i have heard about that stops the email registration scheme working is allowing autofil to fill in your email address because it automatically leaves a blank space after.
You must delete this blank space.

This actually worked and allowed me to go through with it. But it still didn't restore my progress after I registered my email.

The thing is, you need to have registered your email address with EA before losing your account as this method, while it is quick and easy, will restore what is currently on EA's servers.
Your missing account is backed up somewhere in EA's system, but if it has been replaced by a new one, you will need to get the player id number that is associated with that account.
Unfortunately, when a new account replaces your old one, it automatically issues you with a different player id number.
Which is why it is so important that players keep a record of it somewhere safe.
Congratulations on getting your account back.

@Everglow46 Do you still have any iOS device with the game running earlier version? If so, you can get your (original) player ID from the Apple's iOS Settings menu (see image below). There is no need to start up the PVZ2 App.
Alternatively, if you have back up with iTunes, you might be able to restore your old ID to your device but please disable internet data and WiFi to check the PVZ2 App.

I have an old iOS device with the game on an earlier version, but for some reason the player ID is the same as the one currently running the latest version with the fresh profile. Perhaps it is due to them using the same AppleID?
I think i might have to look for my old back up with iTunes, i have it somewhere, hopefully the back up method works

@Everglow46 Could you clarify by answering the below please?
1. On your old iOS device with ea earlier version, does it still starts up with a forced update message box (like image below)?
If so, please close the App and DO NOT update the game from the App store.
If not, please try to turn off internet data and WiFi, start the game and see if you can enter the original adventure mode to check if your original progress is still present.
2. You are stating the player IDs are the same on both the old version and the new, does the old version still showing the correct progress?
3. It is possible that your original progress on your old account has been reset from the server side but normally there are backup servers holding the correct data for a set length of time, if this is the case, you will need to act quick and get assistance from EA help center by following the link at the bottom of this page. Normally, there will be a lengthy wait but I know there had been positive outcomes from players experiencing the same account reset issue.
