Plant Stats Menu Question *screen shots*

OK i got a question about the Menu where you level up your plants!!

In the stats where it tells you what family the plant is in (fila, spear, bombard etc) there is a check box. I'm including screen shots of it checked and unchecked!! what is this box for?? Does it do anything??
