Plants vs Zombies error "file too short"

I have Plants vs Zombies installed, but it no longer works.  When I try to play, I get an error message “File too short”.  I’ve tried the following fixes:

• Repair PvZ from the EA app
• Uninstall and reinstall PvZ
• Uninstall and reinstall the EA app
• Delete the “userdata” folder – the only one I could find was in Popcap Games, not in the EA games folders
• Delete and Reinstall the Origin app – but I couldn’t reinstall it; it reported no internet connection although the PC is clearly connected, and all other internet apps are working

I contacted the EA help chat and opened Case #183955285 – but they couldn’t help me and told me to post it here

Can anyone help?
