I have an android device and am also using witch hazel and the only problem i have with hocus crocus is that I've decided it's pretty much useless in arena but i can't remove it in the setting up phase so i have to wait until the tournament starts before digging them up.
That’s what I do!
plus it fixes my bug.
all the best

Yes you can remove them.
Just press the eye icon on the plant selection screen and then dig up the plants, please do remember that you will not get free suns from digging them up this way.
Thank you I'll try that
This tip worked for my android device, once I remove the Hocus Crocus, the game no longer crashes
Am I right in thinking then if i use both Hocus Crocus AND witch hazel the game will continue to crash?
or is it fine using themtogether if I delete the two hocus crocus initially?
I am playing it without the witch hasel, ande still crushes. ☹️
Any suggestions?
Thank you tried your suggestion and it work

Could you give us your load out (or the plants you are using) please?
Remove the 2 Hocos Crocos plants as soon as the game starts. This will insure you have no cliches. Don’t use the Hocus Crocus plants at all with or without Witch Hazel. The Techs will need to ironing out this bug. Thank goodness the plant is pretty useless.
Hope this helps.

Remove the Hocus Crocus plants as soon as the game starts. Dig them out and don’t use them at all.

I am also playin on my i phone - i tried removing the plants it is still kicking me out
I did not remove the hocus crocus and used dynamite vine instead of witch hazel. Still crashes. I like the new plant but if I have to remove it why even have it as the plant.
Looks like the they have solved the problem by no allowing us to use the Witch Hazel plant.
I tried it and used the new Hocus Crocus along with the Caulipower and no problems.
the only issue is we cannot use the Witch Hazel plant which is part of the same magic family.
Also if you can use Witch Hazel along with Caulipower you get much more points.
Maybe they should just fix the problem properly and not simply by using a band aid by removing a plant of the same family.
See what happens.

Pierre
The bug is in hocus crocus itself- it has nothing to do with witch hazel yet the developers just removed the ability to use WH. If you used any other plant with HC, it crashed no matter if you used WH or not. Now that WH is removed HC continues to crash the arena. You STILL have to dig it up but now without the ability to use WH. It’s pretty ridiculous.
- @pierrezammit1955 Mine STILL crashes. Why wouldn’t they just fix the bugged plant? Boggles the mind.
- @eieio_31310 Mine only crashes if I don’t dig up HC- no matter what plants I use. Are they aware that the bug is in the new plant and not in its relationship with witch hazel?
- @jegroman Dig up hocus crocus as soon as the gameplay starts and don’t use it.
I have started a case with EA to sort this out I cannot guarantee anything but hopefully with enough complaints they will fix this with a new patch.
hang in there
PS mine is now working with Hocus Crocus but I got an update and access to Witch Hazel was removed. This is still a band aid solution as Witch Hazel is part of the same family as Hocus Crocos and with denied access to Witch Hazel does not make sense.
just fix it properly !
