This is the 4th week since the introduction of Battles. I am wondering if there are winning or losing moments you would like to share, I post a few of mine here to start it off. The winning images ...
I find this topic very interesting so I pinned it to the top of the forum. With the introduction to Battlez it opens up a whole new avenue to strategizing & plant combinations, before the PvP mode started I didn't honestly take the time to think about it more than that. Do you have any plant combinations that work more often than others or does your strategy depend on the weekly plants & Zombies in Battlez?
And less than 10k victory is pretty impressive, I doubt I could manage that 😉
After one day, I find out this combo which helps me to regain my winning treak to 8 so I can almost reach to the top of my table: Chard Guard/Blover/Primal Potato Miner/Sun Bean and Reinforce Mint My best score with this combo is 300k. See you all in Jade League
I do not believe this week's Battlez is designed for low level plant players. While I can get over 1 mil with high level plants, I could not even manage 300K with level 1 plants. 😞
I am starting to wonder as what selection of plants the game designer was thinking to be the correct choice for this Battlez.....
I don't believe the designers put very much thought at all into plant choices or combos for the various arenas they come up with.
Virtually every tournament they have set up favors those players with Max level plants.
I realize that Max level players will, or should, do well in any tournament, but on most occasions EA have seemed determined to make life difficult for those players with low level plants.
It seems like they don't even realize that players with high level plants can make far better preparations when it comes to planning the start point defences. That's because the Max level plants are much cheaper and so they can put out more than the low level players can. They then make matters worse by giving low starting sun, or restricting sun production. That again favors the Max plant players and makes life even harder for low level plant players.
I don't know if it would be possible to implement, but wouldn't it be good if some form of handicapping was built into the Battlez matches. EA's systems must be able to detect the general rating of individual player's plants, so it should be possible for some form of sliding scale where players with lower level plants get to start off their matches with proportionately more start sun than the Max level guys.

I think this is already in place (not sure if this were intentional), take this week for example, because low level Tall Nuts are at higher sun cost so low level plants player can get more sun by digging them up, but to me, I thought the whole purpose of the game is to be entertained or making player feeling good to have achieved something -- I have to confess I even enjoy losing a game if I can gain better knowledge on the better strategy from my opponent.
This week's Battlez design seems to be making most low level plant players feeling bad as they are not able to protect their own base (mower without being triggered), It is true that I still win most of the games, but it does NOT mean I am good at it, it just means my opponent is having an harder time with the zombies... 😞

Good point. There were also 3 Electric Peashooters in place a few tournaments back that could be dug up. Maybe EA could/should have the start point of every match with a few plants already in place so players have that option. (I somehow doubt that was the intention on EA's behalf.)
I dig up the Tall Nuts in this week's tournament (I also dug up those Electric Peashooters) and that assists with having an improved initial defense in place. If it means lower level players getting a bit more benefit then I'm all for it.
@eieio_31310 I think Battlez is designed for players with premium plants as it should be for any games that allow in-game purchase.
But I find it challenging and interesting for low level players like us. I think the most interesting part of Battlez is finding your own way to win a match and climb to Jade League. And I am enjoying it.
It is true that I still win most of the games, but it does NOT mean I am good at it, it just means my opponent is having an harder time with the zombies... 😞
Kinda feel the same way. For some unknown reasons it seems that the matchmaking makes me play against player with lower plants this week, dunno if it is my imagination or not, well I'm not complaining about this.
Else, would be nice if EA would put an alternative Battlez mode as we discussed days ago with a pre selection of few plants (let's say 10) for each game, same level for everyone, and same "setup" of zombies waves. It would be really about which one is getting the best strategy. (yes I can keep dreaming)
Not sure if it is worth it to go to Jade league. You will spend lot of gauntlets to get there and if you get in, it will be even harder to go to the first places.
I'm with eieio on this- I'm no.1 (i love saying that), in brick league and so far I've won 54 and lost 6 which is well above my normal win rate (4.3 -1). My highest score was 344,700 using 5 plants totalling 13 points (i never used aloe but he's level 4 so i didn't count him. and i only broke 300,000 twice this week. I do use premium plants as i got fed up of losing to players using them. Yes i would prefer it if i didn't have to buy them (with real money or gemz/ mintz ) and would have been sooooo much happier just paying a one-off payment like i did with the first plants vs zombies instead of being bled white by EA's department of bleeding people white. As you will probably tell me that i don't have to buy premium plants and it's my choice to pay for them or not. ANOTHER VICTORY TO MEEEEE!!!!!!🇬🇧

It may be part of the draw, but I feel it's also algorithm based.
When your streak progresses, you get randomly assigned to compete with someone else who has also been doing well on the same streak. If your streak continues, it gets harder.
When your streak is broken, you get a BREAK, and paired against others on the lower rung again.
This does not mean you won't have some bad LUCK in getting another top player who just happened to break their streak also and needs to re-start to get up there too again.
Anyhow, this is my theory from my brief experience in observing how the ranking goes. It does crack me up how some people falsely believe that these contests are actually in realtime. LOL

On a side-note while the current contest is winding down...
I am surprised (almost) that no one is talking much about Calipower.
I always like to look at the end results of people who did superior to me with an unorthodox setup, and try to figure out what they did. So far, the only players I've come across that are consistently breaking the 1 million points mark all the time are ignoring anything to do with blover or guard, but doing the Calipower spam.
I know I"m going out on a limb here because I did not see the actual play to determine if they are spamming or not. But since I've seen many top players using not just one, but TWO separate Calipower items to the match, call it an educated guess!
Caulipower is an excellent plant for Battles, this is because it can deal with tough gargantuars, not by killing them but by turning them into helping you to bash the high scoring point zombies towards the end.

It annoys me when companies like EA consistently have to make everything Pay-To-Win lol.
As if all the other payment gimmicks and ad-spam EA throws at me isn't enough, they have to throw this stuff into the works. Grrrrr!
That said, wish they would fix their own bugs when it comes to Gargantuars. I still can't unlock the achievement for killing him in Lost City. Even though I've completed the whole thing, and I even now just went back and killed him again. The damn achievement won't register.
Anyhow, looks like (crossing fingers) I will be making it into silver league, despite not biting more of the pay-to-win poison. Will see in a few hours.
My first game today I spammed the premium plant, and watched them all get eaten as I had no clue you needed to tap on them to do anything. Doh!
Kinda just like my first game in last week's Battlez was a disaster also. I spammed a bunch on the front line too and decided to sit back and see what happened.
Nothing happened! Aside from them all being eaten up. Then I lost to a newb. LOL!
Still pulled out a silver League promotion out of it. Wasn't sure if I'd get surpassed in the last couple hours or so.
And here's some stuff I"ll never be able to use...
Thanks @D0CT0R_Z0MB0SS Maybe I was a bit lucky, I'll see with my other games.
Moonflower+dusk lobber is always a nice combo if you want to get lot of suns,.so you can really fill the place with your plants quickly. Blover is 100% necesary this week. Primal potatoe mine was not that interesting I think primal peashooter may be better.
I think a good late game setup would be mix of moonflower+dusklobber on columns 1,2,3 & 4, peashooter on 5 & 6 & holly bareer on 7. Or put chard guard instead of peashooter if you master the combo with blover 😉
Congrats @eieio_3131, your score is always impressive.
My best score in Aloe week is 409k and a few other vitories over 400k, a tough week for me as I earned approximately 500 crowns but only came in third place. Anyway I’m in Jade League now.
Thank you for the tip! I got score over million with same plants 🙂

BBnot, I am curious why you and other Jade players seem to be such a fan of moonflowers lately. I tend to go with the Twin-Suns... always have, and assumed I always will. Seems to work out for a rookie like me at least. :P
That said, my favorite plant lately is Squash. In my fantasies, I would have a whole board full of squash. It is always my go-to plant, and I bring it 98% of the time on any board. I think it's one of the most under-rated plants. Note, I am not saying it's the BEST plant, just very under-rated. Works out very well for me.
@Kermo3 Thanks and congrats, my best score in 5 games so far is 730k, what are the levels of plants ?
@D0CT0R_Z0MB0SS Is reinforce mint a good member of your team ? I'm not totally satisfied by primal potatoes mines that often get hid behind some holly barrier
Else I'm not a Jade player, too much gauntlets to get in it, I rather stay between Silver and Gold 😇
Why moonflower ? Because they can become the most efficient sun producing plant when surronding by other shadow plants (including other moonflowers) 🙂 For example for this week, for the setup I do a "8" figure with moonflowers and I put dusklobber between (see pic) so each of the 7 moonflowers will produce 100 suns. So 7*50 suns = 350 suns spent to get 7 plants producing 100 suns with moonflowers. Compared to the 7*125 suns = 875 suns recquired to get 7 plants producing 100 suns with twin-sunflowers, it is easy to see why they are better 😉
Plus, they are doing a great combo with dusk lobber, which, (I quote from pvz wiki) "can be considered to be one of the most potent lobbed-shot plants,as the plant under the right condition (= next to one moonflower) is only second to Strawburst in terms of splash damage per second, while costing less than half of that of a or a Strawburst."

" Is reinforce mint a good member of your team ? "
Mine is at level 1 only, so you are only going to get about 2 shots with it per battlez (and that's assuming you don't sleep and forget to get the first shot in on time).
It has its uses and I'm still experimenting with it. So far it's a keeper for me.
Thanks for the breakdown on moonflower, I was planning to get into the math on that for a while though.
I'm not really sold on the use of Dusk Lobber here though. If you are going to go with a Blover strat, then there is no bonus in blowing away weakened units, over full health. So I don't see the point. I'd rather swap the lobber with a heavy-hitter, like my favourite (squash), or hell, even the Electric Blue-Berry. Or just stick with primal potato! lol
I will do more experimenting with the moonflowers though.

@D0CT0R_Z0MB0SS - I don't know the level of your plants, but this shows what can be achieved while using the Dusk Lobber in tandem with the Chard Guard/Blover combination.
Needless to say I don't get that score each time (I wish!) but I do more often than not break the 3 million mark.
*************************************************
May I ask where you got the information that a weakened Zombie scores less points? I hadn't heard of that theory before and haven't seen any in game evidence to support it.
Blowing 'weakened' Zombies away is no different to killing them with repeated hits from any other type of plant. That way of thinking would seem to suggest that each time a Zombie is hit its score potential drops. If you take that theory to the extreme, unless a Zombie is killed with one hit it eventually becomes worthless by the time it's taken out
As far as I know, the only thing that makes the points score for individual Zombies go down is when they manage to get further on to the arena and enter the progressively lower scoring zones.
As for the Electric Blueberry - Mine is at Max level (My ONLY max level plant to date) but I never use it in Battlez. Okay, it IS as you say 'A big hitter', but it has major downsides. Its slow rate of fire is one. The fact that its strike is cancelled and the plant goes back to sleep if its selected target gets wiped out before it can take out the selected Zombie is another. When taken together it, in my opinion, makes it a non-Battlez plant.
