How do I unlock the plants with the silver locks? I have all the seed packets but I still can’t unlock them, am I missing something? Or do I need real money, I thought only the gold locks needed money? I can’t find anything online about this
The recent change on the Almanac is that all locked plants are now silver colour.
What this means is, you want to know which plants are $$$ plants and which plants are gem plants, the easiest way is to visit the store and look under the green (Plants) tag. There are also Power Mints which are not unlocked by seeds with an exception of Enlighten-mint.
I did make comments many times before that PopCap/EA should bring back the colour padlock system to indicate the different types of plants but guess this task is to difficult for the dev teams. So sadly, you were not the first nor will be the last player who are confused by this new design.
I find that PVZ2 is a confusing game when it comes to unlocking plants. There are no in-game helps or tips so you'll know where to stand plants-wise. It is frustating because PVZ2 has lots of amazing new plants and you can't have them anyway.
Some plants need the required number of seeds to unlock, most powermints need 100 mints to unlock but now seeds can be obtained but you still need to purchase the powermint with mints.
Some plants can be purchased with gems and some with cash or Google play credit (android only).
Currently the only powermint for sale is Bombardmint.

If you Google pvz2 plantname then you can visit the fandom site that has a description of the plant plus a table showing the costs of levelling up.
It costs 4,150 mints/seeds to max out a powermint and the best levels are 4, 7 and 10 because they knock time off the refresh rate.
