[Solved] App crashes during startup after 8.9.1 update

Hello,

I play at PvZ 2 since years on my iPhone with my game data saved & synch through Game Center/iCloud without any issue until now.

After finishing an arena game, this window was displayed :

This data update seemed to finish properly without any issue. I presumed that it could be probably linked to the arrival of 8.9.1 on App Store, so I checked and found in App Store 8.9.1 update.

I launched the app update in the app store which was successful.

When I tried to launch the app 8.9.1 after update, it crashes during Popcap screen (just when Game Center bubble should appear), so also before the lawn roll step :

What I did to try to workaround this issue :

1/ I tried to uninstall then reinstall app --> issue was still there.

2/ I updated my Iphone to 14.5.1 (was 14.5 before), relaunched app --> issue was still there.

3/ I uninstall and reinstall --> issue was still there.

4/ I tried to disconnect my account from Game Center, reboot my iphone, reconnect to Game Center and relaunch app --> issue was still there.

5/ I tried to connect on an ipad with my Game Center account and launch PvZ --> app is working but I can't see my player account in landing screen

In parallel, I saw that since some days, my icloud account was overquota. Now this issue is solved.

Any idea to solve this issue ?

PS1 : ticket #82972925 closed by Help team saying "please check this page" : Troubleshooting EA mobile games on iPad and iPhone

PS2 : In the mail received during the closing of the ticket, one phone line was communicated and I can confirm that (for France at least), this phone line accept PvZ on iDevices issues and tries to solve them.

@MonsieurBek I have the same problem, I’ve also tried to install and older version, didn’t workout

@MonsieurBek This is neither the first nor the second posts I have seen IOS device user experienced the PVZ2 App crash at start up after the update. I have tried to alert one of the member from the dev team over the sub reddit site and hope that someone will be looking into fixing this with a general release.
A warning to other IOS users, if you are currently grinding seeds for new plants, please refrain from update your App by turning off or disable your auto update for the PVZ2 to avoid this issue.

@MonsieurBek me too, but my iCloud account was not overcrowded.

@thrallxd : important information for me because I feared that iCloud lack of space could have corrupted game data and then create this issue.
I presume that the game stores game progression data locally and then synch this local data in iCloud to allows to share them on others iDevices on which I can be also connected with my Apple account + Game center.
Because I uninstall at first the app then updated to last iOS version, I have fear to have lost locally on my iPhone any usefull data to recover the game...

I didn't make any screenshot of my player_id before having this crashing issue. Now, it is too late because the app is not loading anymore.
In crawling under iOS submenus, I found this information under Settings > PvZ 2
The structure of the player info seems to correspond to the player_id that could be found in the application (8 / 4 / 4 / 4 / 12 chars).
Can someone confirm me that this screen in iOS and Pvz2 app give the same player_id ?

Yes, it is the same.
You should be able to quote this to the EA HELP CENTER advisor and get further assistances.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I already communicated this id to french EA Help, waiting for their feedback.
Nevertheless, I think it's a good information to be widely broadcasted because before discovering that, I thought player_id was only findable with a working app, which was not the case for me...

It is indeed a good find, could you add this to the Hints and Tip thread on the sticky?
Just wondering if Android shows the same details? Maybe some active members can confirm?

Very very good news.
9.8.2 update was pushed in my App store and after updating the app, I was able to start correctly.
The app ask me to choose my good player_id and I recovered all my game data !
