I've just accidentally created a new profile, i was switching profiles and my keyboard popped up and i hit the "b" key by accident and a new profile was created.
I'm not sure what i did and if i find out i will post it.

I'm slightly confused because i thought profile creation was disabled at the moment, i would like a level 5 profile but the thought of all that extra work puts me off, as well as the extra grinding 500 crowns per tournament for the latest seedium, even if i turn my level 1 profile into a level 5 profile (lots of extra seeds, gems, coins and gauntlets) it's still a lot of work.
About a year ago i cleaned up things and deleted 64 unused profiles created as part of the installation process not knowing that EA was going to stop the creation of new profiles.
Magicimppear had better get back to Hogwarts for his exams.......
Very regrettable but I did the same MagicDave (as far as deleting profiles) and have spent the past year rebuilding my Level 1 profile into a mid-level profile (Ancient Egypt plants should all have over 1000 seeds) if and when I choose to be done with Level 1.

This bug is still present in 7.9.3 and happened to me yesterday o_O
I have similar thing happened to me last weekend when I was changing profiles. This used to show up after I change the region setting on my phone but the latest update seems to make this happen with changing profiles now.
OK that was weird. I just tried to close PVZ2 and I couldn't get it to stop. I hit resize and then Clear All. Nothing. I hit resize and clicked the X. Nothing. I went into Apps and did Force Stop. Nothing. I restarted the phone and went through all these steps again. Nada. It's like the app had developed a mind od it's own. I turned off the phone and waited 5 minutrs before turning it back on again. You'll never guess what was waiting for me. Yup PVZ.
Finally I hit the pin icon. The dang thing wiggled a bit and then turned 45-° sideways. Yep somehow I had pinned the app to the screen. I NEVER use the PIN icon.

Today I figured out how this works! It is very simple to create new profile even though the option has apparently been 'removed'.
1. When you are in-game tab the back button to get to the homescreen where you see your profile name
2. Quickly tap on the profile icon and immediately press the edit button. If you time it correctly the keyboard will pop up.
3. Just type in anything and a new profile will be created
Don't expect this to work on your first try. You might need a few attempts until the keyboard pops up.
