This is the only tournament I've played that really slows down towards the end.
I think there are so many zombies dying and generating scores at the same time that their special effects and processing are causing your phone/ tablet to overload which is probably why it keeps on jumping out of turbo mode.
I have reported the screenshot problem and my text issue to EA HELP CENTER so I'll probably get an email in a couple of days telling me to::

I can see your point regarding graphics overloads possibly causing the turbo mode to terminate, but I only seem to get the slowdowns at points in the matches that involve the appearance of blastonauts.
It can happen to me at any point. Sometimes it's fairly early on in the match when there are fewer zombies on screen. Sometimes it's later on when there are hordes of them. Sometimes it doesn't even happen at all. Other times it can happen on multiple occasions through one match. Basically it's totally random and I only notice it's happened because the game suddenly seems to be going much slower.
As a point of interest, and something that MAY well give a clue as to why it's been happening, I've just realized that I get the same thing while farming for seed packets on Far Future world. I often use map 27. It's a 'Plan your defence' map where 5 Bug Bot Imps drop down on column one at several points during the level. To make it play faster I always do it on Turbo, but I've now noticed that as soon as those Imps appear the turbo mode switches off.
I now can't make up my mind whether it's the appearance of the Imps themselves causing it, or if it's down to a message appearing on screen that says something like 'A wave of zombies approaching' that's the culprit.
Maybe you could try playing that map to see if you get the same thing? If you do try it, make sure to fill column one with Bonk Choys, or Wasabi Whips if you have it.
Then keep your eye on the Turbo button to see if it illuminates each time the Imps drop down.
I don't generally use turbo unless I'm farming pinatas but i tried L27 10 times and watched really closely and i think the bot drop triggers dropping out of turbo mode.
I have also noticed Laser beans vanishing without reason in this week's tournament so i think either eieio is up to his old tricks again or it's bug city.
If you put one infi nut on column 1 and plantfood it then that'll hold them until your caulipowers can change their minds for a quicker finish.

So it's not just me getting the turbo ceasing when the bots drop on that level. Thanks for doing that test for me.
I had one Battlez match today where it dropped out from Turbo about 5 times in the space of 20 seconds. THAT really p_i_s_s_e_d me off and disrupted my concentration to the point where I lost track of my plant placements and even forgot to deploy a Spearmint when I should have. Fortunately it didn't cost me the match, but I had one of my lowest scores because of it.
I'm also glad you mentioned about Laser Beans vanishing for no apparent reason during Battlez. I'd noticed it on several occasions. I've even had instances where I felt sure I'd planted a bean only to find it wasn't where it should have been. I would assume I failed in placing it and go back to reselect it to try again, only to find it was in the process of building up again. That proved I HAD placed the bean but it disappeared even though there were no zombies close enough to have eaten it. I found it tends to occur most often in column 7, rows 2 and 5. Is that what you've been seeing?
I also had something really weird happen in one match on day two. I suddenly found there was a Bully at column 4, row 4, but none of the plants in columns 5 to 9 in that row had been eaten. It was like it was suddenly just dropped into that position out of nowhere. It was just the one time, but it was most disconcerting to find it right in the middle of the row when nothing else, other than the blastonauts was getting past column 7.
