"WHAT THE [Insert suitable word] !!!"

I have just played a Battlez match which left me staring in shock at the results screen and thinking “WHAT THE [Insert suitable word] !!!! How in the hell did they do THAT??”

My plants were – The default Solar Tomato (@ Lvl 8) - Lvl 8 Caulipower (Imitated) – Lvl 8 Explodo-Nut – Lvl 10 Lightning Reed – Lvl 8 Gold Bloom.

My ‘opponent’ had the default Solar Tomato (@ Lvl 1) Lvl 4 Caulipower (Imitated) – Lvl 3 Explodo-Nut – Lvl 3 Blover – Lvl 4 Gold Bloom.

I used the Lightning Reed (With 10 filling columns 1 and 2, together with more dotted around in various other spots) to deal with those pesky Parrots. They also dealt very effectively with any thrown Imps.

My ‘opponent’ used the Blover instead. That would blow away the Parrots and thrown Imps, whereas the Lightning Reed would take out the Parrots instantly but take a few shots with the Imps before dispatching them.

I ended up with, from memory, (Sadly I found the recording file was corrupted), 11 Caulipowers, around 15 Lightning Reeds and 2 almost full columns of Explodo-Nuts in 7 and 8.

I scored just under 1.7 million. My ‘opponent’ scored almost 2.9 million.

I fail to see how someone could outscore me by around 70% when they had only one plant different to my load out, and those which were the same as mine were 4 to 5 levels lower than mine.

If they had used either the Primal Peashooter, Chard Guard, or Stallia in combination with the Blover I MIGHT have put it down to superior tactics, but for them to score what they did with them using only the Blover without support from any ‘Knock Back’ plants makes no sense.

Any thoughts, guys?

  • I have moments like this too, but I also lose to really strong players so it all plays out evenly.

Today I lost to someone who scored above 4 million with lvl 7 solar tomato, lvl 10 cold snapdragon, lvl 10 blover, lvl 9 chard guard + imitator, and a lvl 6 stallia so yeah...

The most telling part in the match you lost to someone with above 4 million is the fact that they had a level 10 Blover that they used in combination with the Chard Guard and Stallia. (Unlike the player who beat me when using only a low level Blover with no support from any 'knock back' plants.)

At level 10 the Blover costs nothing to deploy each time and refreshes in just one second. That means the player could constantly spam the Blover while using the limited sun supply to top up any lost Chard Guards. (They probably didn't even need to use the Solar Tomato.)

Once they had their plant set up in place, their strategy was basically cost free so it's no wonder they scored 4 million plus.

The initial set up could be achieved easily with just 750 sun. - - -  5 Cold Snapdragons in column 7 would cost them 500. 5 Chard Guards in column 8 would cost 125 sun. 3 more Chard Guards put in place to cover where the first few rifts open up within the arena would cost 75 sun. 500 + 125 + 75 = 700. That means they could have all the bases covered and still have 50 sun left. After that it's happy days. Blover, Blover, Blover, Blover, Blover, Stallia, Blover Blover, Blover, throughout the match. Less any time to harvest the falling sun. I can visualize them doing it and it's all so simple to see why they got their score. I bet they were getting that in virtually every match.

Unlike you, I still can't figure out how the player I lost to scored 2.9 million. On its own, all the Blover would have done was get rid of the Parrots, Thrown Imps and the very few flying Zombies that came from the rifts. At the very best that would have scored them the same points as me for the same Zombies, but possibly a little quicker than when my Lightning Reeds took them out.

Nobody likes losing, but when you can understand why you lost is easier to accept than when you can't see how it was possible for someone with much lower level identical plants (Other than Blover vs Lightning Reed in my case) to beat you.

That is the reason I wish EA could put their AI in better use, matching up a high level plant player with a low level plant player will eventually push both players away, the former finds it boring and the latter find it not enjoyable.

I like your way of thinking in dropping a league in the hope that there might be more actual players present and not bots to keep you entertained.

I do not mind losing a game provided I gain new knowledge and strategies, so I can fully understand why you are not happy with your game when you opponent's winning does not seem to add up.  At the top leagues (Jade, Gold and silver) I think one should expect there are many 'talented' players around, I might give their setup a go to see if I can get a good score from that.

  • Oh wow, I had no idea at level 10 blover is free. Now I need to get mine to lvl 10 since I use it so often LOL

My gaming background goes way back to when my first computer was a zx spectrum with a rubber keyboard and i had to buy magazines to copy programs from unless you were fancy and could afford a cassette tape deck.
Through the ages i became a consumer and bought better stuff like the commodore 64 (with 5 1/2" floppy drive),various ataris and my first real pc, a 486dx2 66.
Back then DOOM came on 6 floppy discs and i beheld the future in the guise of the cd rom drive (single speed) and soundcards.
I have bought and played many games over the decades and this is my first foray into online gaming and also my first experience of a freemium game.
It will also be my last.
I like talking to other players through the forums but the constant farming of ads is driving me insane.
Battlez is great but the cost in time, real money, gems and coins is just too much for me.
It's taken me nearly 2 weeks to get lightning reed (underrated) to level 5
    and thats just 1 plant!
Most of my plants are between 3-4 and i do the daily quests and the pinata parties and they stopped being fun a long while back.
For a newbie i think I've done pretty well so far and i just don't see myself spending most of my freetime farming ads.
In real money I've spent around £50, a few useful items and premium plants and a couple of gem purchases to buy gauntlets.
The whole thing is designed by very clever people to suck you in, get you hooked and bleed you dry.
This is only my opinion and you may think differently but i still have fun playing the original PVZ.
    Fun has gone.
    Bye Bye fun.
