PVZ 3 - Change How Wave Progression Works
I’m sure this is a common suggestion, but I really want to emphasize how important the Wave Progression system is to the gameplay of PVZ.
In PVZ 1 and 2, zombies spawn after a set period of time or when enough damage is dealt to the zombies. This makes it so you can stall zombies at the start of the level and build up your sun production, or so that if you’re doing heavy damage to zombies you don’t have to wait for more to spawn in. In PVZ 3, zombie spawning is completely linear indicated by the progress bar at the top. The start of every level rushes zombies out, meaning you can’t stall them and making plants like Potato Mine less valuable, yet the mid to end of levels can feel sluggish when you defeat hordes quickly and have to wait for the next batch of zombies to spawn. In one level I played, it took over 30 seconds for zombies to spawn in after defeating a wave!
This is clearly a huge issue, as it takes away a lot of the strategy that makes PVZ fun and also can make levels feel more empty than usual. I personally do not think this requires an entire recode of the entire system, however. The easiest solution to implement would be something like the progress bar speeding up if no zombies are on the lawn, and slowing down when the total health of zombies on the lawn is above say 50%. This would make the waves slightly more dynamic without needing to remake every single level yet again, and I’m sure the community would much appreciate this change as it is core to PVZ.
As a slightly related suggestion, it would be nice for 4 flag levels to return, but only if the wave progression system is reworked in order to make them fair and fun. I know a few people miss the longer levels, me included.
Thank you 🙂
