I would say things are well covered by the initial post and the follow ups. So a bit late to the party and indeed, the most crucial issues have been addressed here, but may as well add some further thoughts.
Team swap and uneven teams have plagued the series since day one of GW1. I feel this is the most critical issue after getting general performance problems handled (crashing, lag, aiming/movement issues, server connections, etc.).
I'm actually enjoying Ops and last week while still off, ran some with @asabaida and @ippig but there's no doubt they could be better. For Ops I'd like to see:
- The ability to select difficulty, and hopefully length (10 or 5 waves)
- It doesn't bug me much as I like playing both sides, but a LOT of people want to be able to select garden or graveyard ops instead of what we have now, so that would be preferable.
- The ability to ensure you do or don't have an elite boss. With a good team they're a nice challenge (although very uneven as some are very easy, others not so much), with a team that isn't sure what to do, they're dreadful. This is very much like boss hunts from GW2 were but here they're mercifully much shorter.
- I'd like the evacuations back. That seems to be a common thread too. It was a nice bit of extra tension in the GW games.
- More interesting special waves.
The rainbow stars situation would be received much more positively it we knew the rotation of stuff in Rux's store. So far, most items have already been back at the store at least once which is good, but as it's hard to predict when things will show up and return, people will feel rushed. This needs a lot better communication. FOMO will be much less of an issue if we know things are coming back, and those of us with less patience or who don't mind buying stars can still do so.
For solo stuff, I really miss running TT with bots and having friends join. While I find TT more enjoyable with teams of actual players, sometimes you really want to kick back and play against bots. I did a lot of bot matches in GW2 as getting quests tied to less played modes required it, but even without that qualifier bot matches can be a lot of fun.
I feel the maps in BfN are just too open with only 8v8. I'd much rather have 12v12 for TT games.

I keep forgetting to add this, but I can't be the only one noticing that when you get that 'huge wave' special wave in Ops that it's actually SMALLER than most/all 'normal' waves!? There are times where that special wave is immediately followed by a wave that's easily 50% larger!
