To be honest, I'm fine with it either way. 12v12 feels grander and chaotic, 8v8 feels a little tighter but overwhelmed by map size. I've not had much lag at all in this game (PC) but I also agree that fixing the actual cause of the lag that people are experiencing would be better than reducing player count to improve it. It's a separate issue that needs a separate solution.
In GW1 after they added the 'bling' packs they had shut down Main Street on regular 12v12 G&G matches but left it in mixed mode which also had G&G but it was 8v8 instead of 12v12 to avoid the lag issues the bling customizations added, at least for a time.
I had a feeling when they did the boss’s in 8v8 TT, that they were testing for lag. Personally I hope they are just testing this. There’s too many scenarios where it just won’t work. Zombies will steam roll if they stick together. Vice versa for plants. If it stays this way there are a few things that will have to be looked at.
-reloading while sprinting
-SPAWN POINTS
- time it takes to take objective
-time it takes to revive
I don’t have the answers yet. Let’s play it out for a bit and see how it goes. And hope that the feedback they mention comes from here and not just just other social media’s and forums.
I strongly disagree with the 8v8 changes and feel like they should be reverted ASAP. Having chaotic battles was part of the charm, and the maps were built with 24 players in mind.
Make 8v8 a separate, ranked competitive mode if you wish. However 12v12 has been my favourite way to play Turf since GW1, so seeing this change is genuinely heartbreaking.@Glastrier I agree with your idea. The bustling chaos of 12v12 added to the fun factor of TT. Even if it was laggy as all hell, I didn't mind it much because I love being part of large scale battles. But without the large player count, the maps feel very desolate.

I don’t mean offense so please read the rest/hear me out.
OF COURSE nobody that loves traditional TT will enjoy 8 v 8 the way this was served up. When the game first launched, NOBODY liked TT because spawn points, run, run, run, die, etc....
Things were optimized and people managed to find a way to enjoy TT, albeit a FAR CRY from GW2.
If this new 8 v 8 was presented properly, there would be an equal amount of chaos but instead of running so often/far after respawn, you’d be in the action more (regardless of dying/killing).
@dwooten77 nailed the issue with this 8 v 8. Too many shortfalls that don’t compensate for fewer players. The number one (obvious issue) is using spawn points that were used in 12 v 12. Initial map spawns/starting spawns are fine as they are but respawn points need to be reworked so you’re closer to the action.
If spawns were reworked and reloads and revives tweaked to match, everyone would see more large scale battles than 12 v 12 with current spawn points (again, reflect back to when the game was released and how much better TT plays after they fixed spawn points).
At the end of the day, I want the TT crowd to walk away with their mode being as fun (or more) than before but if NOTHING changes, it isolates many of us.
I think the Deathmatch crowd AND the Turf crowd could love 8 v 8 but not in the current state. 😢
I’m not liking the 8v8. Like some has said the maps are too big for 8v8. 12v12 is better.
- @dwooten77 In all the Twitter messages last night from Shaun Laker & others about the changes to TT, the forum was not only mentioned, but there were direct links to it & this thread in particular - and it's great that we've seen responses from new names already!
I think you've made excellent points about the possible problems & with the greatest of respect to @spIash_damage who I know is excited about this change, I have to confess I'm not convinced this is a good thing.
The lag should definitely be addressed separately regardless, because although 12 vs 12 TT was the worst place for it, it's not the only place it's happening. In TT we were already having game problems with people not bothering to play the objectives because they wanted to stay at the back sniping or warp around spawn points getting kills & I can't see that changing.
In smaller teams, games are only going to be successful if there's a good selection of characters being played from the different classes, and if there's something you need or want to work on that's going to present problems.
I guess this is a case of let's play & see, but unless you get a lobby full of experienced, TEAM-SPIRITED players, I think this is going to be difficult & frustrating most of the time. Wait WHAAT, what did i miss?
I got back home late yesterday and played only Ops.
Did devs actually changed standart ops to 8vs8 or thats a new weekly event!?
If devs changed standart, return it back to 12v12 instant, or im gonna rage alllot, and gonna stop playin at all.
There was plenty of time when servers wern't full but 9v9, 9v10, 8v7 and so on. And felt way less dynamic and fun, so if its gonna stay forever BFN will be dead for me. Ops alone won't hold me.
- @delete180 Standard TT has been changed to 8 vs 8, to see how it goes 🤷♀️
