A balancing suggestion...slightly different
OK, judging by the comments throughout this forum it is pretty clear that nobody can seemingly agree on exactly how to sensibly move forward with issues regarding character balancing so what about this as an idea.
Part 1:
Instead of each character having their own unique attributes (the apparent root cause of all the balance problems), what if every single plant and zombie had absolute equal baseline skills (movement speed, primary weapon damage, special ability damage, health etc etc).
Part 2:
PopCap could then implement a system whereby each character has a fixed number of skill points that the player can use to upgrade individual attributes in order to make their plant/zombie more suited to offensive or defensive game scenarios. Or simply more suited to the way they like to play.
Examples:
If plants/zombies are defending they could compromise mobility or health by upgrading their primary or special weapons.
Attacking plants/zombies could boost their health at the expense of weapon power.
So basically a system allowing the player to create a unique character as opposed to the preset ones that seem to be causing all the problems. I know it's not a new idea because unique upgrading has been the benchmark for Forza for many a year and if memory serves me correctly the skill point allocation was implemented very successfully in Grid 2, so, you know, it can be done...
Like I say, it's just a suggestion - but if it's done correctly (and actually works) then it also comes with the added bonus that in future people might want to talk about more interesting things within these forums 🙂
