The spam is annoying in gw but that doesn't mean I think its a op ability.
This will very much be kept in general terms despite the various subvariants of bomb effects found in BfN, as the damage inflicted, to a large extent, remains the same throughout all three PvZ games. However, despite the character variants mentioned, being true blood GW2 characters, the bombs' characteristics apply equally well to BfN.
Be that as it may. I find that the bomb to be used depends very much on both the game mode and the character variant.
Re the various Game modes:
The Suburbination, Gnome Bomb and Turf Takeover modes present an ideal setting for the Sombrero bomb, as the time it takes for the fuse to set off the bomb is very often sufficient for seeing both zombies that have just been knocked out, and new recently joining zombie players hurrying back to the graveyard, being caught out by the delayed explosion.
Secondly. The mêlée struggles that converge around the Gnome Bomb, the Suburbination and to a lesser extent the Turf Takeover zones are also ideal for launching the bomb, as the fighting is often so intense that players (and that includes plants that wastefully set off a bomb) don't notice that a bomb has been launched.
Re the character variants:
Whereas the Sombrero bomb is the perfect game-changer for those three game modes I find it of little use in the remaining modes.
In these fast and rapidly changing non-defensive modes, I use the Bean Bomb in medium to close-quarter fighting due to its short fuse delay. Particularly as a supplement when playing as Agent or Law Pea in melée fighting, as I find both characters (especially Law Pea) extremely difficult to use effectively at close quarters. The fuse delay is minimal and can often catch zombie players off guard
The Dark Bean Bomb pair (GW2) I don't find of much use and hardly ever use them. That said, I find them indispensable when playing as Ice Pea, as the damage inflicted on a zombie is not always enough to knock it out and a single bomb (or even two for the high heath zombies) is perfect for finishing off a zombie that has been slowed down or even frozen by the Ice Pea's freezing effect.
