Accessories Got Less Love This Time Around

I'll be honest, I was blown away when I first accessed my Stickerbook and saw 6,904 unlocks. I couldn't believe it, I thought Popcap had really gone through a ton of fan service to offer a huge variety of item unlocks; I was wrong. Turns out, each unlock has five versions of itself which limiting the options you have to spice up your Plants and Zombies.

You'll unlock the initial item, followed by a silver, gold, diamond and gem variant of the same item (some of which are kind of laughable, I mean diamond framed glasses? C'mon). No doubt there are some silly unlocks, but a lot of them are items I question whether anyone would consider using in the first place. Having five variants of the same thing is a way to bloat the sticker book and force players to purchase more packs.

The cosmetics just don't seem to have as much love in them as the previous installment. Are there any plans to bring forth the previous cosmetics from the first game? AT LEAST GIVE ME MY HAPPY HANDS! :'(

    Yeah, those quirky accessories 😃

  • I am happy with the accessories in this game even though i could do without the bling versions of most of them a lot of them don't even look good. Diamond outfits aren't even as cool as the last game since they don't sparkle like they use to. Aside from that there are tons of animated cosmetic items that i love putting on my characters. I know a few of them even react when you vanquish other players/heroes like the Imp's legendary disco hat that i got a few days ago

Agreed, I definitely think that was a step in the right direction; I'm still not sold on the idea behind the five variants, maybe the decision was made to help reduce the chance of players landing the best animated items though I still find it irritating when I continue to get the same item instead of new ones that I might enjoy.

I don't even understand why the gold/silver whatever alternatives even exist, I don't use any of them because they look so contrived and flashy It's no less tribal then having a dozen gems pierced onto my characters face. Only one I've seen that doesn't look dumb are the silver eye glasses, because metal.

It's a kid-ish game though so of course a lot of the unlockables in general will be silly, I just wish they had more female-hairstyles or even just hairstyles in general that you could unlock. Especially considering how many of the Zombies and Plants are technically androgynous. There's very few ways to customize your characters looks without sending them over the edge of stupidity.

I got the upside down football goal post mustache, then I got the silver one and said what's the difference...the difference is, the nose part went from red to silver. I said, "wow...really?"

I do hope DLC brings more variety of extras. Granted coins are easily attainable and some accessories I likely will never use.

  • i think the first games' customization items look way way better than the new games' do. i dont have that much unlocked but what i have so far is severely disappointing, to the point where im only using one all-star tattoo across all class's customizations. one customization item. the others look so bad. its not funny looking, just dumb, for lack of a better word. im not trying to criticize the design team. i really like the rest of the game. and tbh, the customizations are not super important to me, but its definitely something i noticed.
