After Catalina Installed on Mac -Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year won't launch

After Catalina was installed on my Mac computer, my Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year would no longer launch.  EA Customer Help tried all sorts of troubleshooting with me - to no avail. Everything was fine until the new OS was installed.

Screens show that Plants vs Zombies has been installed....green checkmark inside green circle

When you hit on it...it goes to the yellow background Plants and Zombies Game Screen

When you hit the yellow background game to launch it - it cycles back to an 'install' screen.

Plants vs. Zombies is a 32-bit app, and Catalina is 64-bit only, so the game won't run in Catalina.  I haven't heard anything about a 64-bit update, so it may be that this game will never run in Catalina or any subsequent version of macOS.

The only way to play would be to use another operating system.  Aside from playing on a different computer, you could install Windows through a virtual machine (e.g. Parallels) or Bootcamp.  Or, if you have at least temporary access to a Mac still running Mojave or earlier, you could use that computer to install Mojave onto an external hard drive.

  • Thank you so much for your help / explanation....I kept checking back to see if a 'fix' was ever done for Catalina...but I see now that won't ever happen.
