I've invested equal time on both teams an I have a favorite variant in each class on both teams.
My ultimate goal is to hit maximum Player Rank so that requires that you put in the time on both teams and with all characters, unless you want to endlessly spend your Stars for XP with the Fish in the sewers.
I definitely have individual characters who I really dislike playing, for any number of reasons, and once they're Mastered I'm unlikely to play them again but right now, at Rank 5,008 I'm pretty sure I'll keep playing both teams and probably a variety of character classes on both depending on the play mode, map, objective and the makeup of the enemy team.

Honestly it's what you get used to and adapt to. I prefer zombies because they are more human like, weapons are more interesting and they are funny to play with (the Imp is hilarious, the All-Star is goofy and the gestures of Super Brainz are funny). When I play TT I sometimes have to play as Plants and usually then I get to used to them so I'll go on a steak of Plant playing...but I'll always go back to Zombies. Although I'll get sick of Zombies sometimes and definitely switch, I don't have a problem with that. I enjoy planting Cactus minds and having unsuspecting Zombies walk over them...
