You can play battleground online its just hard to get people to join you. The easiest way is to ask people instead of spamming.
You are missing the question obviously you did read the question correctly.
I am not spaming people to join in battlegrounds I am asking will there be an online role for the battlegrounds aka matchmaking etc in the future.

I doubt it. Aside from the infinity zone and story mission there's not really anything to really do co-op wise in the backyard battleground.
