Default Scientist's close range hit does 70-80 damage I believe; further away is about 30-40.
Marine Biologist's close range does about 30-50; not sure about further away.
Seeing all those vanquish compilation videos, most of them are with Scientists, although I haven't seen one made for PC yet.
There is no way that gun does that much damage, lol. It takes 5 hits to drop a chomper.
Also, most of the upgrades I've gotten and gotten all excited about too btw, have been downgrades. So the standard scientist already has the best stuff, yawn. Why not make upgrades that are more useful or that broaden his use or gameplay. He's already limited enough to just healing teammates, there is no way you're going to use him as an offensive character. The Scientist needs more defensive stuff period.

Are you sure you're hitting directly and getting a crit off?
It's a shotgun, so you are doing crazy damage when up close. He's probably one of the most offesnive in-your-face characters overall.

So how many shots does it take to drop something? In my experience it still takes 3 or more; so the only prayer a Scientist has is to warp in drop someone, maybe 2, then warp out a short distance away and get away? good luck with that. This character needs more work is what I'm saying, it's not balanced compared to the High Damage Output of the Peashooter, cactus etc. Even the sunflower can root and kick ass for a second.
Teleport, with it's delay, isn't sucha great thing. And the upgrades of teleport; such as energy warp; are downgrades; so is every other unlock I've gotten for the medic. Instead of the proximity mines you can get a big healing ball? whoopdedoo. Very limited in use with very little reward and no survivability benefit.
The Scientist Needs a buff.

2 direct shots to drop Sunflower/Cactus/Peashooter.
2-4 direct shots for a Chomper, depending on the variant and whether it has upgrades or not.
IMO the original abilities are the most useful when going for kills.

Just played a quick round.
Scientist - 41 damage when about a body length away. Slow fire rate. Average clip size.
Marine Biologist - 30 damage when standing on top of them otherwise about 22 damage about a body length away. Very fast fire rate. Average clip size.
Dr. Toxic - 25 damage about a body length away... but has toxic damage every second, also. Very slow fire rate. Small clip size.

The scientist does not need a buff. That point blank damage he does is insane.

The sceintist does not need a buff, I primarily play scientist and his strength is getting in close and hammering away with a short range shotgun attack and then teleporting away. He's the healer, he's not supposed to be an all-around damage heavy class.
