If I recall correctly, this was the last of the boss hunts introduced, and the order was; Sasquatch, Spooky Squash, Yeti King, and finally Brothers Gnomus.
The mechanics here are cool, and it is nice that you have colors and shapes like you point out, so color blind folks won't have an issue identifying things (some board and video games still need to learn this lesson). This is the easiest boss fight by a large margin, but you can still fail it (having 2 deadbeards on your team is not a great idea for example). You can also have issues if a teammate is either intentionally or accidentally, changing the symbols to the wrong ones.
That curse is awful, but especially if you're a Scientist so you can't heal your team! Make your way to that statue in the Rome section pronto!
The hat is huge. I use the scrumptious version (the ccrraazzzyyy!!! one) of each of these boss hats on one variant and my Arctic Trooper has it, it makes him almost 2x as tall as he actually is! This one was far and away the easiest to get crazy done, my friend and I played a TON of Boss Hunt to get all the hats unlocked back in the day, sometimes an entire weekend of doing it over and over till we got decent teams that could do it on hard and crazy. This is part of why I generally like the elite bosses on BfN ops as they don't take so long, success or failure. I do really like boss hunts though, and wish they'd at least have it in the town hall as again, lots of people need the hats and acheivements!

@Iron_Guard8You are right about the order and they were also the most frequent boss hunt besides sasquatch.
It's crazy how a lot of boss hunt mods with bots make deadbeard one of the best allies to have thanks to his aimbot accuracy but players using him almost always struggle (superbrainz mains are usually good but all-stars were strangely always somewhat competent). I can't imagine how bad a AI bfn deadbeard would be in a gw2 boss hunt since they never charge shots.
A teammate messing with the symbols is still doable because even if they keep shooting one they will eventually arrive at the right one.
The curse is arguably the hardest thing in the fight since it allows the purge to instakill you and that's the only major hazard in the entire hunt.
I wish they would at least do something with the mystery portal as randos rapid whatever gets stale when you do it eight months in a row with only one unique mode in capture the taco (man, I remember when everyone thought this would mean we would get better portals after September). They really need to just add more unique modes in the cycle than they can leave it be.
