Boss discussion: Royal Hypno-Flower

Royal Hypno-Flower

Bfn description: She snaps her petals

you wake up-vanquished!

She is the final boss of the zombie campaign in gw2. A hybrid of a sunflower queen, alien flower, and a hypno shroom. I don't even wanna know how that works.

Gw2: A boss hunt that is multiple phases and she's built up in the final act of the zombie campaign and is introduced at z factory where she initiates permanent goatify and is invincible. The player must survive for dr zomboss to arrive and figure out a way to revert them back to normal. She is eventually defeated at time park after a failed attempt at building up an army to beat her.

Bfn: Upon losing health she turns the team into goats and they must eat poly leaves before the goat purge ends and they are koed. Has hypno shroom minions.

Powers

Hypno Spores: The Royal Hypno-Flower's main attack, where she fires pink blasts that explode on impact, dealing damage. This attack leaves a harmful cloud of spores on impact, similar to the Alien Flower and noticeably "ripples" the area around the site of impact, making it harder to see through the targeted area.

Hypno Vine Whip: Lashes out twice in front of her with her arms, dealing damage and knocking back targets. Identical to Sunflower Queen's version.

Hypno Tether: Attaches a beam onto the zombie that makes their vision blurred, and makes them move closer to it so she can use her Vine Whip. Identical to the Hypno-shroom's form of offense but deals greatly increased damage.

Hypno Aid: Summons 3 Hypno-Shrooms as support enemies.

Super Goatify: Only used every time the boss loses one-quarter of its health, the Royal Hypno-Flower roots in place, charging energy. During this time, she is highly vulnerable, but after she fires the attack, it transforms all Zombies into Stinky Goats (albeit pink in color). In order to dispel the effect, the Zombies must eat a decorative plant called the "Poly Leaf" which appears in randomly chosen spots throughout the map. As the boss becomes more damaged, more Poly

Leaves are required to dispel this magic. Her weak spot is vulnerable at this time.

Health gw2 only

Easy: 4550 HP

Normal: 7550 HP

Hard: 10550 HP

CRAAAAAZY: 13550 HP

Sunflowers prioritize her much like sunflower queen.

She was handled better in gw2. Her fight is one that takes careful team construction and i do like how you have bot allies for it even if it's down to you to eat the leaves. Her bfn version is just a less interesing version of hher gw2 version and she's less textured.  It's really disappointing as they could've given this boss position to imitater or another unique boss.

  • Like the Pirate Gargantuar from the end of the zombie quest line in GW2, I wish this one was used more. At least this one did eventually make her way into BfN, even if her elite hunt isn't the best.

She's basically a boss variant and that's actually cool. I'd love to have a fiery super chili bean boss (I think there's one in the files for GW2 that never got released), mummified gargantuars, and others to mix things up a bit.

In Bfn, the hypno effects have always been more noticeable than in GW2, but then there's that bug introduced from a patch that made it and the sunflower heal beam linger after the plant doing it is defeated which made it even worse. I really wish they would have fixed that before pulling support from BfN.

Her boss fight in GW2 was rough, although I recall the pirate gangantuar being even harder, but it's been awhile since I played those missions. Her elite boss fight is interesting with the goat situation, but like Reality_Squared pointed out, the lack of any real consequence for failing to change back to a zombie, you just respawn in a few seconds, makes a fight that could be very difficult, a trivial affair. I know that many of us are flooded with team retries and self revives in the GW games (partly why I suggested letting us buy them and other consumables in a store as we see fit rather than from RNG sticker packs), but that's better than how it works in BfN.

I am glad they added her to BfN, I love seeing more stuff in these games, but it could have been better than what we got.

@Iron_Guard8 While I do like the final hunts at the end of both gw2 campaigns, I simply wish the game did more like that of building up an antagonist and then having be fought at the end of that questline.

The chili bean boss does exist and apparently the zombies would have to fight him with deodorant to make him damageable.

That beam glitch is a pain.

Captain Smasher was harder because his test of strength koed your team if you failed unlike the goat phase which just leaves you defenseless.

The elite waves in bfn lack a lot of stakes due to every character coming back to life even if the team gets wiped out as a whole which was the loss condition in boss hunt. The only way to lose elite waves in bfn is to be inept for ten minutes straight.

I don't mind her coming back just that i think it could be a lot better than just a nerfed boss hunt version.
