Boss discussion: Yeti

Yeti zombie

Bfn description:

HE'S GOT SUB-ZERO CHILL!

Gw1: He comes out of an ice floe, makes a small ice storm while dancing, and unearths a blue slushie and drinks it. Yeti Imps and Arctic Troopers will arrive.

Gw2: has claw attack and Warfare 2, Arctic Troopers, Goalie Stars, and AC Perries will appear in his waves.

Bfn: Elite wave Yeti can only take 1 damage. Soon, Yeti imps will appear and the plant players are tasked with vanquishing a set number of Yeti Imps. After the Yeti Imps have been vanquished, an elite Imp, named Ragnorimp, will appear. Upon being vanquished, he will drop Pjölnir, allowing the Yeti to be harmed for 360 damage by the player who wilds it, along with anyone near them, for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the cycle resets. Yeti king with a few steps missing basically.

The players only have 10 minutes to defeat the Yeti. Not doing so will result in a game over.

Yeti tends to retreat when attacked. He will often still target players, coming up close to perform an Ice Blast before backing off and using his Yeti Icicle so dont mistake his withdrawal for full on retreat.

Health:

Easy: 1000 HP

Normal: 1600 HP

Hard: 2200 HP

CRAAAZY: 2800 HP

Powers

Yeti Icicle: Throws a chunk of ice at his target, which deals 25 damage along with slowed movement. This attack will never freeze the target.

Ice Storm: Starts doing a dance that causes many icicles to fall from the sky, which deals 20 damage and slows down enemies caught in the drop zone. This attack will never freeze the target.

Ice Blast: Jumps, and sends out a shockwave of ice in a short radius around it, instantly freezing and dealing 40 damage to all plants caught in the radius.

Yeti Claw (Gw2 only): Claws at close players directly in front of him with his hand, dealing 30 damage.

Immune to freezing but can be burnt, poisoned, and gooped much like gargantuar.

Is a robot as you can see gears and sorings explode out upon his death and hear static, however a majority of zombies disagree on this and say it's the ramblings of a crazy person.

Seems to have the longest attack range of any boss.

When you install gw1 and are playing at daves mansion, a vasebreaker will occur and a yeti will attack you called the popcap zombie.

Has sharpened teeth and his idle animations are different from other zombies in that he appears to be shivering and chattering.

Before tactical taco party he vould be killed with a single sunbeam/gatling session and was buffed accordingly.

Fights in the backyard but often dies first as his weaker health and ice is ineffective at combating the plant bosses.

A glass cannon boss who moves fast and hits hard but dies extremely fast on lower difficulties.

On higher difficulties he's one of if not the hardest zombie boss in the entire game as his speed makes him hard to pin down and he can easily, freeze you up close or afar, bomb rooftops with his airstrike, and his minions can easily deplete your health and slow you to a halt.

His elite wave is easily the hardest but it still feels lacking compared to the king's with the thematically attired ice variants. Bfn ice also doesn't fully freeze its target so its overall less difficult. Also having no snow maps really kills the vibe of fighting this boss.

  • The Yeti is a mean one, even in BfN. He does lack health, but when playing Ops in GW or GW2 and you get a super Yeti wave, it can be a rough time, especially solo Ops in GW2 as the bots get crushed by him quite often. I've used more self-revives and team retries with solo super yeti and bean waves in GW2 than even craaazzy boss hunts!

The elite version in BfN is rough, especially if you lack teammates that know what to do. It's even harder than the elite spooky squash wave can be. Those elite imps as part of the waves are a part of this too.

He's so evasive too. Part of why the Yeti King boss hunt was so difficult is even when you had the damage buff from the imp, you could use a large chunk of it, just getting to the Yeti king!

Not too hard to deal with singly, and yeah, he's not great in the backyard once plant bosses show up, but he will slap you down hard some times.

He is better on snowy maps, part of why I like GW2 the most is there are more variable settings, even if GW felt closer to the original tower defense game in theming.

@Iron_Guard8He's definitely a menace in crazy as he slightly has less health than disco and baron but he hits much harder and his minions are much more dangerous.

I was amazed at how accurately they managed to capture the original games aesthetic and tone in gw1 alongside having some nice touches like the zombies eyes being bloodshot. It was an amazing transition to 3d for a game with arguably little to go on.

Gw2 easily had the best variety though (gw1 just had suburban areas, shore lines, and the desert) by far much like pvz2: snow maps, modern day maps, moon maps, theme parks, various maps throughout time, and factories. The maps also brought mechanics like portals, cannons, and low gravity.

Bfn tried to replicate gw1 maps styles but it honestly doesn't work for me as they went way over the top with the cartoonish nature and really loses the aesthetic and tone that made gw1 maps stand out with their abandoned city/countryside in a apocalypse vibe littered with graffiti and the undead presence as every gw1 map had a graveyard or tomb that the zombies spawned in at.
