Thanks for the extra info. It's a bit of a long shot but I've seen other games have odd behaviour due to some issues with settings. Can you try wiping your local settings and see if this has any impact?
You'll find the files at C:Users\yourusername\Documents\PVZ Battle for Neighborville\Settings, if you delete them all they'll be recreated from a template when you start the game again.

Thanks, I did that but the issue is still there. Could it have something to do with my graphics card? Got a GTX 680, every other game runes smoothly and fine though, without visual bugs.

It really shouldn't, that's a fairly common card and I haven't heard of it happening before. Driver issues usually manifest as instability/crashing, but you could try a clean reinstall of the drivers for that GPU?
