Character Guide - Peashooter!

Hey everyone,

This is my first guide in my character guide series. This guide intends to cover every character with some depth and detail involved.

I used the following link for the information in this guide, or if you want to know more about Peashooter, go here: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Peashooter_(PvZ:_BfN)

Overview of the Character

Peashooter is an Attack character on the Plants faction that fires Peas at enemies, and has 125 health by default. Its primary weapon is an "Explosive pea projectile weapon."

"Peashooters are highly versatile plant combatants. They provide plenty of explosive damage and are effective against smaller targets.

Special: Explosive peas deal splash damage.

Primary Weapons and Abilities

Primary Weapon

Primary Weapon: Pea Cannon. It is an explosive Pea weapon that always deals critical damage when you directly hit an enemy. It can deal direct and splash damage. It deals 34 damage for direct hits and 14 damage for indirect, splash damage hits. The rate of fire of Peashooter's primary is slow. The maximum default ammo capacity is 10. You can shoot faster if your Pea Suped ability is active, so if you want more out of your firepower when you use that ability, reload first.

Abilities

Chilli Bean Bomb: This ability launches a Bean Bomb in front of the Peashooter, which explodes after a medium delay, which deals 125 damage to Zombies that are caught in it, or 15 to those who are close, but not that close, to it, when it explodes. This can be useful for scattering groups of enemies, or possibly earning you multiple vanquishes at once. You can actually push this towards enemies (your allies and enemies can also push it around). You can use Pea Suped to throw the Bean Bomb further.

Chilli Bean Bomb Character Upgrades:

  • Pro Spitter (1 upgrade point): When you deploy your Bean Bomb, it travels 50% further, meaning you can hit enemies at further distances, but is more ineffective at closer ranges.
  • Bean Party (3 upgrade points): If you get a vanquish with your Bean Bomb, you get a 3 second cooldown reduction for your next use of Bean Bomb, meaning you can use it more often if you get vanquishes with it.

Pea Gatling: This ability allows you to turn into a turret, where you are completely immobile, but gain 100 ammo which you fire very rapidly. Each shot deals 10 damage, or 12 critical damage, however you lose the splash damage while in this mode. You can deal immense damage this way, so this can be very effective against lots of enemies, but you also become vulnerable to attacks. You can start firing very soon after you enter Pea Gatling, but it takes a while before you can move again once you exit Pea Gatling, so try to plan beforehand. You can activate Pea Gatling in the air, but you cannot fire until you land, meaning you can land hits on enemies by surprise. If you cancel Pea Gatling with some ammo left, the cooldown will be reduced based on the ammo you had left, so do not fire unnecessarily if you do not need to.

Pea Gatling Character Upgrades:

  • Reload Gatling (2 upgrade points): When you deal 5 critical hits in Pea Gatling, you gain 25 ammo for it. You can actually use this to gain potentially infinite ammo, meaning you can continuously shoot and deal high damage in this mode.
  • Explosive Gatling (3 upgrade points): Your enemies explode when you vanquish an enemy using your Pea Gatling, this deals a maximum of 40 damage to all nearby enemies, meaning you can damage and possibly vanquish multiple enemies at once. This damage can be reduced if enemies are close to the blast, but are not close enough to be in the inner blast radius.

Pea Suped: This ability, while active, allows you to move faster, shoot faster, jump higher and allows you to hover while you are in the air. This greatly improves your mobility while it is active, while also increasing your rate of fire for your primary weapon. You can use this to get to a higher location, get towards enemies (and maybe throw a Bean Bomb from further away, if you wish) and to get away from bad situations. This ability is very versatile and can be used for a number of different reasons. Activating Pea Gatling cancels Pea Suped, but you can use Pea Suped to activate Pea Gatling from a large height.

Pea Suped Character Upgrades:

  • Feed the Beast (3 upgrade points): When you earn a critical vanquish while Pea Suped is active, the refresh times of all your abilities are reduced by 12 seconds, meaning you can use your other abilities much more frequently.
  • Combat Adrenaline (4 upgrade points): When you successfully deal damage while Pea Suped is active, your Pea Suped duration gets extended. This means you can use Pea Suped for a really long time, or at least for a longer period of time. You gain 4.25 seconds of Pea Suped for every 4 successful hits you deal.

Exclusive Character Upgrades

Peashooter's exclusive character upgrades are as follows:

Escape Roots (3 upgrade points): Whenever you vanquish an enemy, you move 20% faster for 3 seconds, allowing you to get away from a fight or to find another enemy.

Last Ditch (3 upgrade points): Your last Pea in your clip of ammo deals a massive amount of bonus damage (when you have 1 ammo left). It deals about 90 damage instead of 34 on a successful direct hit. You are able to use up your ammo until you have 1 left, then wait for an enemy to appear and hit them for a high amount of damage this way.

Homing Pea (4 upgrade points): Your Pea Cannon weapon gains homing, and can home on enemies, if they are close enough to you. This makes it much easier to land direct hits.

Party Time (5 upgrade points): When you have earned a vanquish streak, for 15 seconds, you gain a 20% damage boosts and 10% movement speed boost. This means you can defeat enemies more easily, and get around more easily as well. Additional vanquished enemies during Party Time do not count towards another vanquish streak. Minions and Bots do not count towards this vanquish streak.

Usefulness in Situations

General

More effective against smaller targets and groups of enemies, due to the explosive damage and the Bean Bomb.

Reviving Allies

  • You can throw your Chili Bean Bomb before you begin a revive, this way, enemies will hopefully need to worry about not being blown up by the Bean Bomb and focus on that instead.
  • You can activate Pea Suped before you revive in order to move around faster as you revive, as well as being able to shoot faster.

Contesting the Objective

  • Use your Primary weapon to try and take out clusters of enemies.
  • Use your Bean Bomb to try and deny space for enemies, move them away, or to hopefully vanquish some.
  • Use Pea Suped in order to make it harder for you to be hit, and so you can fire back (and faster). This could also mean a strategic Bean Bomb placement. You can hover unpredictably as well to confuse your enemies more.
  • Use Pea Gatling in order to quickly take down some enemies. Try to activate it behind cover before you start firing, and it may be worth using your other abilities first as well, as you are a vulnerable target.

When Abilities are Negated

  • Once you collect an item, you can still fire with your Peas and deal splash damage. It may be worth focusing on smaller targets or against enemy groups, if possible.
  • Before you collect an item, you can throw your Bean Bomb to distract or vanquish nearby enemies.
  • You can actually use Pea Suped while you have an item that negates your abilities. Simply activate your Pea Suped, then collect the item. Then, enjoy having a faster fire rate, movement speed, improved jump height and the ability to hover, even with an item. Just note that this will only last for a short time.

Tips

  • Aim for vanquishing smaller enemies, enemies with less health or groups of enemies to make the most out of Peashooter!
  • Try using your splash damage to hit enemies around walls, and to negate natural regeneration.
  • Try to deploy your Bean Bomb in an area where enemies are less likely to notice it.
  • Use Pea Gatling while enemies are unaware of where you are, if they even know that you are there in the first place.
  • While using Pea Suped, you can attack enemies from above. If you keep jumping in Pea Suped and shooting, you will make yourself harder to hit.

These are my Peashooter tips. Thanks for reading!

  • @TheSprinter85 Fun fact: If an enemy is vanquished by explosive gatling they explode as well which can cause a chain reaction in ops.
  • @Cameroid07 I never thought of using it in ops. Now I will just to see the chain reaction myself 🙂

@TheSprinter85 As always, I can only say I love your guides. BUT. We need to talk about the gameplay video. You have a serious addiction. Look, we all love you and don't judge you. Everyone is addicted to something, but you are seriously addicted to reviving. I looked away for long enough, but when you tried to revive someone in front of a Super Brainz I needed to start this intervention 🙂.

In all seriousness: I really enjoyed the video and you very playing very well (I think the Acorn in the beginning likes you 🙂). I actually revive nearly as much as you do and I would have also tried to revive the plant in front of the Super Brainz, as he seemed distracted.

@benn1nat0r I am not quite sure at which part you actually mean this. If you mean when the Stink Cloud was right in front of me, honestly I actually had no idea that the Super Brainz was there. If you mean when he was he was not paying attention to me and coming out of the tunnel, well, I mean this is Team Vanquish, so I was just trying to help. 😇

Not only do I love reviving allies (and am addicted to it), but I have learned to be really good with it. Normally, reviving leaves you fairly defenseless. I have adapted to performing a variety of different techniques in order to achieve revives.

My brother is the one who prefers the offensive playstyle and aims for vanquishes and dealing lots of damage, while I am the opposite, I support my team using mainly Support or Defend characters, or I revive my brother and others when they get vanquished. I do mercy-main my brother because he does not seem to mind and we normally can get away after we achieve his revive. Again, I am a revive lover, I can't help it, can I?

Honestly though, I am glad you said that, firstly, it means that you know that I do truly love reviving, I do not talk rubbish 😇, but also I should be mindful of where I revive. While I normally do not leave a revive and will just stick to it, there have actually been situations where I have actually (had to) left it because I was most likely to be vanquished before the revive actually completed.

@Cameroid07 Ooh, sounds like fun! 😃

@TheSprinter85 I think I was referring to 2:50 onward in the clip. You sprinted away from him and then helped to revive. Then, you started to revive the second plant. You are right, by the time you returned he was in the stink cloud. I thought you knew he was still there, as there wasn't a vanquish notification and you could still hear the punches.

I just wanted to use the opportunity for a terrible joke 🙂
I actually love that you revive as much as you do, I get frustrated when people don't. Many assume it wouldn't work when enemies are around, but the truth is they will hardly ever notice and you can walk around corners most of the time to gain cover while reviving.

I mean, as you just stated, there are not a lot of players who do particularly revive. Some do, however, I normally respawn almost immediately because I do not get revived that often.

There was this Tourist Trap game where, after we captured, I got vanquished, and I did wait to be revived this time. There were almost no enemies there, but there were allies  around. No one revived me, except when an Al Acorn decided to revive me at the last second. There were plenty of others who could have done that, but only the Al decided to revive.

I really like to revive other players, generally even if there is some danger around. I have adapted many techniques to help achieve revives. I will be making a guide on this quite shortly, but I will need proper footage first.
