Character Guide - Sunflower!

Hey there everyone,

This guide series intends to cover all the characters in this game. In this guide, I will be covering Sunflower. I am still yet to finish adding the rest of the information to my guides.

This following link was used for some of this information: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Sunflower_(PvZ:_BfN). The remainder of this guide is comprised of my own information, and you can refer to the link if you want more information on Sunflower.

Overview of the Character

Sunflower is a Support character on the Plants faction that heals the team and provides extra fire against enemies, and she has 100 health.

Primary Weapon

Primary Weapon: Sun Pulse. It is a weapon that deals 8 damage for regular hits or 10 damage for critical hits. It has a medium to fast rate of fire and the maximum default ammo capacity is 40.

Abilities

Sunny Side Up: This ability produces a bunch of sundrops, which will heal 3 health to you or an ally for each sundrop consumed. It takes a moment before all the sundrops are produced, and you will move more slowly at the start of the ability, but after that you will continue to produce the sundrops for a moment longer and you will be able to move at regular speed again. You will be able to attack again a moment after you have activated this ability. This ability will stack up to 3 slots at once, although you will not be able to use another charge of the ability until the previous use of the ability has resolved. You can use this if multiple enemies are in need of healing or you are at low health, and you can use the ability multiple times in rapid succession if your allies need efficient healing. Move around continuously while using the ability to spread the sundrops around.

Sunny Side Up Character Upgrades:

  • Quick Egress (2 upgrade points): You gain a movement speed increase of 15% each time you activate Sunny Side Up for a short time, which can allow you to escape or get to allies more easily using this ability. You can use this movement for many reasons, and as you have 3 charges of this ability available at once, you can use this speed boost on demand. If you get into a tough situation, use your Sunny Side Up and collect some healing with escaping from enemies, back to your allies. Alternatively, you could use this to travel around more quickly, get to an ally on low health more quickly or to get back into a fight, so this upgrade has its uses.
  • Shove (2 upgrade points): Activating your Sunny Side Up will knock nearby enemies away from you, which you can make use of if you are getting surrounded by your enemies, or if you want to keep enemies away from your team. Depending on your location, you may be able to push your enemies away from a vantage point. This knockback can be used for many reasons, and as you have 3 charges of this ability available at a time, you can keep your knocking around and away from you on demand. If enemies get up close and personal with you, use this ability to shove them away from you and buy you time to escape.

Sunbeam: This ability transforms you into a turret and roots you into the ground. You gain a new attack that deals significant damage to any enemy hit by it, but you cannot move in this state so you need to be careful. It takes a moment to be able to start firing once you activate this ability, but you can exit this state almost immediately, so if you see danger heading your way, you can cancel this ability quickly. You have 100 ammo before this ability will end, and the cooldown of the ability will adjust accordingly to how much ammo you have consumed, so you do not need to fire when you cannot detect any enemies. If you enter Sunbeam and decide not to shoot, you will not need to wait a cooldown, so consider that. You cannot heal allies while in this state. If you can utilise cover and protection with this ability, this ability can be greatly effective.

Sunbeam Character Upgrades:

  • Recharge (2 upgrade points): You gain ammo for your Sunbeam when you vanquish an enemy with it, which allows you to use Sunbeam for longer and deal even more damage to your enemies, or you can cancel the Sunbeam after the vanquish and reduce the cooldown before being able to use it again. You may be able to vanquish many enemies to use this ability for a very long time. Improve your chances of getting vanquishes by aiming for critical damage and attacking enemies that are low on health, as it will be easier to trigger this effect. Aim to be as accurate as you can to get even more use from this upgrade.
  • Stuffy Sundrop (4 upgrade points): Whenever you deal damage to your enemies with your Sunbeam 10 times, you will automatically spawn 5 sundrops at your location. This will be able to heal you, or nearby allies, effectively providing you a way to be supportive even while you use your Sunbeam. The sundrops produced will be similar to the Sunny Side Up ability, but not as many will be spawned. To get more use from this upgrade, you should aim for enemies that you can hit more easily or that are not paying attention to you, so you can land more damage. You can use Sunbeam when close to your team to improve the healing you will provide to them.

Heal Beam: This ability allows you to heal your allies at a constant rate. You are able to provide overhealth with this ability to allies, and this is the only plant ability that allows this, which means you can improve the maximum health of your allies by up to 33% more. You are able to use this ability at any time without any cooldown, and you can continue attacking while healing an ally. You are unable to heal yourself with this ability and you can only heal up to a single ally at a time, so it may be more effective to heal allies that have lower health first. Always try to be close to at least a single ally and have the Heal Beam attached to an ally at a time to help your allies stay alive during fights, which in turn can protect you and keep you alive as well. Continue moving around while using this ability to reduce the chances of your enemies shooting you down.

Heal Beam Character Upgrades:

  • Sunslinger (2 upgrade points): You heal your allies that have critical health more quickly than normal, which will be great for bringing them into the fight more quickly and saving them from being vanquished. This will only apply while your allies are on critical health, but you will overall bring them into an amount of health where they can survive more easily at a more rapid rate. You can make use of this upgrade by healing any ally that is on critical health, and then you can focus on healing other allies that have lost some health afterwards. Use this along with your Sunny Side Up to provide healing to your other allies.
  • Cocoon (3 upgrade points): You can provide more overhealth to your allies with your Heal Beam, to a maximum health increase of up to a little bit over 50% additional maximum health (instead of the regular 33% maximum health). This effect will only apply while you keep the Heal Beam on that ally, but you may be able to use this effect while most of your other allies have significant health. Any ally you that you heal that has quite low amounts of maximum health can be saved from some attacks they normally cannot survive, and any ally that you heal that has lots of maximum health normally could basically become an unstoppable tank of madness.
  • Full Bloom (3 upgrade points): The range of your Heal Beam is increased by 50%, which can allow you to heal your allies from further distances. You can use this to your advantage by healing allies while hiding behind corners or out of the sights of your enemies. If your allies keep moving around, this improved range will reduce the chances of your Heal Beam disconnecting, especially if you are move around to follow the ally that you are healing, and your allies may sometimes move away from you, however the improved range of your Heal Beam will improve your healing on them before your Heal Beam disconnects.
  • Blossom (5 upgrade points): Your Heal Beam is able to branch out and heal another ally, effectively meaning that you can heal up to 2 different allies at a time, which can effectively double your healing when you have multiple allies with you. This is a great efficient way to heal your team quickly, so if your allies stay in groups, this upgrade can be used to quickly heal all of your allies. You can quickly give your allies overhealth as well, which improves their survivability. You are not able to heal yourself with the Heal Beam still, and you will get no use from this upgrade if you only have a single ally close to you, so you should take those points into consideration.

Exclusive Character Upgrades

The exclusive character upgrades for Sunflower are as follows:

Pocket Protection (3 upgrade points): You gain health while you are healing your allies, at a rate of about 10 health per second, which effectively heals you at the same time as allies. You can use this healing as a way of keeping yourself alive for longer, which allows you to continue healing your allies and receive even more healing. You can use this upgrade to heal yourself on demand when you need healing. If your allies are at full health, you will not get this healing, so heal another ally that is not currently at full health to get more healing. Make sure that you are always at least close to a single ally, or you will not be able to trigger this effect.

Vampire Flower (3 upgrade points): Dealing damage to your enemies allows you to gain health for each amount of damage that you deal, which gives you a source of continuous healing. You will receive healing regardless of the damage that you deal to your enemies. This will allow you to stay alive for longer so you can continue healing your allies, although this effect will still work by dealing damage with Sunbeam so you can keep yourself alive for longer by hitting enemies. Use this upgrade to continuously heal by dealing damage to your enemies. You will not heal with this effect if you are full health, but you will still be able to continue dealing damage.

Usefulness in Situations

General

More effective when with allies and against single targets, as you can keep allies alive and support them, and your attacks can only damage a single enemy at a time.

Reviving Allies

  • Sunflower has a passive revive speed boost, which allows you to revive allies faster, and they will be revived to full health. These will make it much easier to revive your allies.
  • Use your Sun Pulse against your enemies during the revive for cover fire.
  • Activate Sunny Side Up before starting the revive to give you some healing during the revive.

If you use the Super Saviour upgrade (1 point), you can activate your abilities and jump during the revive, allowing you to also:

  • Jump around within the revive circle to reduce your chance of being hit by enemies.
  • Activate Sunny Side Up at any point during the revive, when you need the healing.
  • Set up and use your Sunbeam for good damage, but remember you cannot move at all.
  • Use your Heal Beam to heal nearby allies that have not been vanquished.

If you use the Revive Reward upgrade (2 points), you will take 10% less damage during a revive, and you will gain 75 health, which can provide you with overhealth as well, which will assist you with the revive further.

Contesting the Objective

  • Use your Sun Pulse to attack your enemies in the objective.
  • Use the Sunny Side Up to keep you healed and your allies.
  • Continuously use your Heal Beam to keep allies alive, contesting and fighting.

When Abilities are Negated

  • Your Sun Pulse can be used to attack enemies that you see.
  • Activate your Sunny Side Up just before collecting an item to receive some healing if you take damage temporarily.

Tips

  • Use your Sun Pulse to provide extra firepower against your enemies. Target a single enemy at a time, as you are not as effective against multiple enemies. Aim for critical hits as you will deal significantly more damage to your enemies.
  • Always try and stay close to your allies, as you will be very ineffective if you are alone, and your enemies can easily vanquish you. You will not be able to make use of supportive abilities very well either, so at least try and have a single ally close to you at all times.
  • Your Sunny Side Up can be used effectively when multiple allies are in demand of healing, or when you are low health to help you survive. You have multiple charges of this ability so you can use it whenever you feel you can make use of it.
  • Use your Sunbeam when you have good positioning, and try to activate it when your enemies are not paying attention to you, otherwise they can shoot you down before you can do anything with it. Surprise your enemies with this ability for improved damage.
  • Make use of your Heal Beam whenever possible, as it has no cooldown and keeps your allies alive. You can heal allies at the start of the game before you enter a fight with your enemies to give them overhealth. Try and be healing at least a single ally constantly while fighting enemies.

These are my Sunflower tips. Thanks for reading!
