The only way both characters are getting coins and exp is to have the both of you have a Xbox Gold Membership. If one of you is only getting the coins and exp then the other must not have Xbox Live.
It's like saying your gonna play this game without Gold Membership, you can't do that.
- Anonymous12 years agoI have a friend that I bring over and he uses my brother's account while he's over here - when we play we both use xbox live gold accounts, and we do split screen.
But, I have the same problem here, I get all the EXP and coins and my friend isn't getting any rewards for the work he does, on my bro's account.
BTW this is on Xbox One for me. It says right at the start of the Local Co-Op Screen that only the first player will get xp and money. It is working as intended unless they decide to change it.

This is correct. This message is displayed to everyone before the second player presses A on their controller.
Just so no one gets confused, the following statement is not true:
"The only way both characters are getting coins and exp is to have the both of you have a Xbox Gold Membership. If one of you is only getting the coins and exp then the other must not have Xbox Live."
