The first two Special Holiday themed events focused on fancy customization items, but when you think about it Halloween is about dressing up and the Holidays are about decorating so the customizations make a lot of sense there.
When most people think about St Patrick's Day you think Leprechauns and Gold so while the previous two events could give the expectation of more customizations, Gold also makes just as much sense. While a goofy hat might be nice to have I'll accept the coins as well to help me inch closer to completing my wardrobe.
Keep in mind that the average player is under Rank 2500, with a whole lot who are still under Rank 1000 and the Quests and events will always be targeted at the average player as opposed to players who are closing in on maximum Player Rank, have all the characters and have nearly every customizations. For those of us topping out like that there's not much that remains to be offered and as entitled as many players may feel there is a definite lifespan assigned to new content roll outs and expansions and PvZGW2 has hit it, but despite that fact I still find the game fun and will likely continue to invest hundreds of more hours into it for the next year at least.
That's all well and good for the average player, but what of players such as myself? Max rank, all characters, all available stickers? What is the reward for all the hours that we have put in? The tedium of playing the paltry number of maps over and over again with the inevitable internal monologue of "This map again? Already? Yawn.". There is little here to maintain long-term interest.
I can understand the frustration of players who are max level, that the coins are of little to no use to them. I am not complaining about receiving 10k coins for something that takes me less than 5 minutes to accomplish.
If you feel unsatisfied, you can complain to Popcap, or just don't do the task. I feel bad that it doesn't really benefit you, because I went through similar things when I reached max level in GW1.
For now.. I am happy with this.

You don't know how the game works. You cannot complain, only people who can complain are famous streamers. Coins are useless. I have 18 million and its just stupid that avrage players are getting everything handed to them (legendary items, infinity items, and coins). I got everything by playing before those infinity packs or community challenges were introduced. And seeing things like 100k coins as a legendary item in the community challenge just makes me mad.
