Damage Drop Off

I still think we should get damage drop off because it's been bringing other problems.

I was playing All-Star and he just couldn't hit his shots. The developers had balanced him without damage drop off but made him too inaccurate for someone who should be able to attack afar with his primary. Citron has the same accuracy but that's fine since he has a portable shield; I see All-Star as a still defender where he doesn't move from his spot often and his abilities are for close-encounters.

Another time, I was playing Space Cadet. Her primary's accuracy varied depending if you're aiming. Even though she has homing it didn't help the fact that her damage output was pathetic and unless you had a certain upgrade its fire rate was equally sad. BTW homing didn't work from a distance, so attacking mid-range was pointless even though her primary should be able to be used from that distance.

Once more, I played Sunflower and if you didn't know, she can deal 8-10 damage while Foot Soldier does 6-7 (already at a great start). She can also heal herself which makes her really powerful and survivable for 100 hit points. She wouldn't be considered OP if it weren't for her insane accuracy and lack of damage drop off. Even if she's inaccurate, what about Sunbeam and its incredible range (which used to have drop off and removed it for some reason).

Finally, I played Peashooter and he was just insane. Homing Pea's range was increased so you can aimbot players from longer distances without realizing that there's a bug that makes it sometimes deal 54 damage. Not sure if it's actually doing that amount of damage, but nevertheless, it's insane for a splash damage primary to be this powerful. Being strong at long range isn't his specialty, but because no damage drop off he can be a threat from far away anyways.

We need damage drop off.

  • @Fork_x_SpoonAgree with all of this but we need to focus on top 3 or 4 changes they can realistically make that will make the game playable when they orphan it in Sept. If damage drop off hasn't happened yet then it won't happen now.

Nerf sunflower healing...citron shield, blaster volume of ammo or warps, and brainium movement...everything else I can live with.

If there's time left, nerf the AI a bit specifically 80s rocket ride and citron laser.

@benn1nat0r Oh I'm serious, I'll quit my job and orphan my family if I have to...victory will be mine!
  • @benn1nat0r 😂
@Gormey Yeah, good luck - I've checked the current author xp board - you'd better get cracking! 🤪 Now behave yourself, at least for the next few hours, please - I've managed to kick my son off & the Xbox is MINE!!! 🤣

  • So if your good with your character or just a smart player do you really need damage drop off? Sounds like people are just mad because hey are not playing a character well!  Or are getting slammed by the enemy constantly. If I’m wrong please explain.

@OB1-The-Only-One the idea of damage dropoff is to force some characters to close to range and most shooters have this; characters that don't have damage dropoff in MP shooters tend to be rare and designed for being able to do full damage at any range as one of their distinct advantages. Right now in BfN, most PvP fights occur at the longest ranges as there is no reason to close the distance unless you're having issues hitting distant targets as you can do full damage as anyone at any range, with a couple special exceptions (NIghtcap and Super Brainz).

@OB1-The-Only-One@OB1-The-Only-OneI don't really agree with the problems in the OP, but drop-off is needed because of characters like Soldier and Electric Slide, who can essentially snipe, while also being very agile. This isn't really a problem, but it is with these chars because of their high damage output. "just position yourself better" or "just sprint or use movement abilities" isn't really something you can say for them.

@OB1-The-Only-One Generally I don't mind lack of damage drop off, but it still can cause some problems. You can take on groups solo in GW 2 since their damage patterns are usually out of sync and you can spread the incoming shots over time. BfN groups can and will easily focus fire you. Although it is also related to different movement.

@OB1-The-Only-One Actually, you're somewhat on point there. You could always just get closer to hit an opponent easier. That said, for those who can play (which is everyone for a casual game), it's very easy to play at unintended longer ranges. For example, Imp is supposed to play at short range but because lack of drop off, he can do well at medium range unintentionally. This makes him viable in situations where he shouldn't.

@benn1nat0r If you need a functioning Sap Trap you could always ask me (or just turn into an Oak yourself). It's not the best but it does more damage!

@Fork_x_Spoon Pardon my language, don't need to be crass, with your Sap Trap we can go kick some Grass.

(I watched the trailer to get the lyrics right and got really sad at the "Now we're running through the trees and crushing enemies and no one ever leaves" part. The announcement has even ruined the trailer I love so much for me. Seriously, I housed to listen to it multiple times a day.)
