I pick my copy for PS4 for roughly £45. I feel I snagged a deal as some other places sold it for £50 up to around £60 at release. Honestly, I still do not feel it is fully justified as despite the design, the game seems rather unpolished with me finding glitches constantly as well as nearly being "online only" which is an obnoxious experience with imbalance, lag, poor design and the rest of the usual online package when most of the base tend to play for stats rather than objective and being rewarded for it. Do not get me wrong, I like this game but I could had honestly pooled my £45 to something bigger and more polished which is the whole point of this thread right?
Multiplayer annoys me because of several aspects and single player is not large at all mainly filled with fetch quests, ops missions and the lot. I think the price will be justified once PopCap releases the new contents in further patches such as new game modes.
Without these updates, this game would certainly get boring quick (which I am nearing that border of boredom).
On release day roses tore me up and I considered complaining in one of the many threads up on the forum, but instead I just worked through the classes to find a counter. So for the next week or two to the patch I leveled most of my scientist variants almost entirely on killing roses.
After patch like I predicted on forums after rose nerf zombies ended up having the upper hand offensively. So since then to now I've worked on changing up plants to counter whichever zombie team I end up facing.
The balance is very close and with some minor adjustments to both sides this game will be near perfect. But if they end up gutting zombies, buffing plants, or both too much your going to end up with plants dominating every game and a forum full of complaints.
Less is more, minor tweaks and this game is gold.
I'm thinking maybe if multiplayer is such an "unplayable" experience for some of you maybe it's you and not the game.
