Dreadwood Boss Fight - Weirding Woods!
Hello everyone,
Here on this thread, I have provided information about getting up to the Dreadwood boss fight (which is the final part of the main story in Weirding Woods), and I will also be covering the actual boss fight itself to some extent. I will additionally provide links that you can look at so you know how you need to defeat Dreadwood, for if you are not sure how to. If you finish the entire main story within Weirding Woods, you will get plenty of medals along the way, and many other significant rewards upon completion.
To actually make it to the Dreadwood fight, you must start by completing 4 quests around Weirding Woods beforehand. You need to activate the Boombox in Stirring Swamp and send the forest to sleep (which you get access to once you have completed the 4 quests) to gain access to the Boss Gate, by allowing you to destroy the vines covering the Boss Gate. To complete all this, you must find 4 particular characters located in different areas around the map and chat to them. When you do so, they will offer a quest for you to complete. Accept them to continue. When you successfully completed the quest, you will gain a piece of equipment towards being able to activate the Boombox, which allows you to send the forest to sleep and allows you to destroy the vines covering the Boss Gate. Additionally, for each story quest you complete, you will get a bunch of coins and a medal. There are also vines covering other areas of the map, by activating the Boombox, you can also destroy these vines located around the map to unlock other collectible items hidden behind them. Look out for Izzy, who is an Imp and is really close to where you first appear. Talk to her and she will offer you a quest. Also look for an All-Star in Camp-Near-A-Lake (named Cleatus, located at the outskirts of the Z-Tech Factory), an Engineer located in Z-Tech Factory (named Hugh, located close to Otto Do's shop) and a Wizard in Z-Tech Factory (named Tim, located inside the actual Z-Tech Factory). When you interact with any of those characters, they will offer you a quest. When you have completed all of these quests successfully, you will be able to activate the Boombox, which allows you to destroy the Vines covering the Boss Gate and can access it. You can also destroy other vines located around the map to gather other collectibles, such as Golden Chests for example.
Here is the location of where to activate the Boombox when you have collected all of the pieces:

When you have managed to complete all of your quests and you are ready to fight Dreadwood and attempt to knock him over, head to the Boss Gate. It is located at the far north of Stirring Swamp. The Boombox is not located far away. Be cautious of which character you want to play as before you head through the Boss Gate - once you have picked and headed through the Boss Gate, you cannot respawn or change your characteer, unless you back out, so be mindful of that.
The Dreadwood fight itself is quite straightforward once you are aware of how to do it. You should not have much trouble. But before you actually have to get there, you have to get through a trainyard, wind will blow and push you back every so often, so use the trains for cover, when the wind stops, head forward, then use cover before the wind pushes you back again. Then, when you get to the end, turn left for the boss fight. Then activate the launch pads when you arrive to get to the platform where Dreadwood is (he is sleeping). Wake him up by attacking his glowing heart - his weak point (the same as what's on the vines around Weirding Woods), to trigger the boss fight to start. There will be phases where he is invulnerable, so you must destroy the glowing hearts that appear on him to continue the battle. My Dreadwood Tips!
My personal tips for having an easier time defeating Dreadwood are as follows:
- Whenever possible, keep moving around throughout the fight. You are less likely to get hit by attacks.
- Use provided cover when you need it; Dreadwood can deal a lot of damage. He can also knock you off the platform which is really annoying because you need to reactivate the launch pads and get back up.
- Characters with lots of health, healing capabilities or shields are really useful due to greatly improved survivability.
- Mobility characters and characters that can jump high (because of Dreadwood's "root swing" attack that can be jumped over) are really useful (e.g. Rocket Jump for Foot Soldier). It makes it even easier if you're moving constantly to avoid getting hit by at least m
- Vanquish any enemies that appear during the fight before refocusing before Dreadwood. They are annoying and dealing with them first makes the fight a bit less annoying for you. Also, Dreadwood is not going anywhere.
- If you are knocked off the platform, attempt to prevent it from happening again because it is really annoying. However, if you do, you could wait and defeat any enemies that are coming after you and heal. Wait for all of your abilities to recharge, then head back up the launch pads and continue the fight.
- When you have to destroy the glowing hearts on Dreadwood, try to avoid using your abilities at this time. This is because they are easily destroyed and you can save your abilities until you can physically attack Dreadwood again. Try to also focus on any other enemies that are harassing you. He's not majorly aggressive at this stage either. Take your time if needed.
- Before entering the Dreadwood boss gate, consider what upgrades you are going to use.
The Rewards
If you manage to defeat Dreadwood, you get all of the following:
- 1,000 XP for the character you used to defeat him, if you do not have the levelling up upgrade.
- "Timber!" - a medal you earn for defeating Dreadwood.
- The Universal Zombie Hat - Right of Dummies.
- 25,000 coins.
- Other rewards you receive along the way in Story Mode.
If you complete the quests and defeat Dreadwood, you will have completed the main story. You will gain plenty of rewards as listed above for doing so. I hope this guide helps some, and I will see you later!
