Enemy location icons take away from the game

In Garden Warfare boss mode had an ability where you could reveal the enemies location to your teammates. It was kind of fun to get a peak at where the enemy was, but the enemy could shoot the boss out of the sky to negate this advantage.

In Turf Takeover the location indicators seem to be on all the time. I find it takes away from the game for several reasons. The first is that it crowds the screen with icons that make it harder to see what is actually going on in the game. The second is that it means you are pretty much always visible to the other team so you can easily be sniped and have no chance of sneaking up on the other team by being clever. I think the mechanic worked in the original because it was limited. In this version of the game I think it ruins things and takes away from the fun.

I think the location indicator icons for enemies need to be removed from the game, or at the very least severally toned down. The screen shouldn't be taken over by icons, and you should have the opportunity to surprise people or be surprised and occasionally have to go looking for the enemy that is sniping you or snuck past and is taking the objective. As it is, the location icons kind of ruin this mode for me. Does anyone else agree?

  • I get what you are saying 100xp. It had occurred to me that reason why enemy location icons are more aggressive in this game is because it is hard to see enemies otherwise. It kind of feels like the icons may be there to make up for other bad design decisions. The map and character designs, if done well, shouldn't require the icons for the game to be playable, but the lighting and map design do seem to cause the characters to blend in. There are also a lot of particle effects that make it really hard to see what is going on. If the icons are there to make up for all of that, then maybe that part of the design needs tweaking also?

  • It's called radar and it belongs in the game. If everyone had silenced weapons there would be no way to stop campers.
P.S. I have no issue seeing the character models

I have no problem with the concept of an enemy radar in the game. What I don't like is how aggressive it is. I don't want to see where every enemy is all of the time. I don't necessarily want the feature to go away. It didn't bother me in the first game, but it was handled much better in the first game and wasn't so aggressive with showing you where the enemy is.

  • Maybe lowered some but not taken out.  I think without this it would slow down gameplay.  Some of the maps are decent size and to be honest the movement speed is slow relative to getting into the action sometimes.

I totally agree with the OP.  There is a place for the location markers, and certainly in Gnome Bomb it's vital to show where the bomber is etc.  They do seem to be much more visible and aggressive than GW1.

However, I don't want to know where every enemy is on the map, and I sure as hell don't want every enemy to know where I am.  It takes a bit of the fun out of the game if you can't sometimes sneak round a corner and surprise a group of plants/zombies for a quick multi-vanquish.

Keep the markers, by all means, but tone them down so maybe they only appear when you draw attention to yourself by firing, healing or something like that?  They are spoiling the game for me as it is.
