You can do more harm than good, it doesn't happen often, but it can happen and your opening up your device for malware. It may work, who knows; but they can't suggest or endorse that path, and it's also not fixing the source of the issue.
It's easy to use how other companies have had similar problems and fixed then faster, but I don't program games. I just know there a lot of code to go through, adjust, test and release in these instances. It's not as cut and dry or easy as some of us would like to imagine. If it was, we'd all be programers. It's not like they can just type in the line "stop doing that" and the problem goes away.
As for compensation. Maybe they will, maybe they won't... It's been brought up enough here that it doesn't need to be a recurring theme. Let's wait till the game is back online and see how they handle it before we decide if the compensation was worth the wait.
